So do you put your goodies in your One Direction back-pack instead?

You buy a bag, and you get a PLASTIC bag. A nice plastic bag. 6 mil at least - better than your typical leaf bag. Says right on it "reusable". Says somewhere in small print "recyclable". Kinda like the plastic bags they replace.

Maybe the whole industry will go this direction. Save the trees!

Yep ... no more plastic bags. Morons!
This is why I now support the “ban” -- an unforeseen but very positive side effect. These bags are so much nicer than the old flimsy plastic bags. Each bag can probably carry at least 2-3x as many groceries without breaking, and they work much better as trashcan liners because they won’t break or leak. I don’t mind paying 10 cents for something like this.

Wait until they are found floating in the oceans.

....and we had simple bars of soap, instead of wasteful, disposable squirt-bottles.....replaceable razor blades, instead of daily throwing away the entire razor handle --- ballpoint pen replaceable refills, instead of throwing away the entire pen casing ---- re-usable cloth diapers ----push rotary lawn mowers --- milk in cardboard cartons (no plastic) --- frozen orange juice concentrate, and powdered tea and drink mixes, which eliminated the gasoline we waste today, hauling millions of tons of ready-made drinks in plastic bottles --- Plastic eating utensils, and plastic or foam cups? Non-existent -- we used glass or else paper "dixie cups".

I think that's a really good point, the unforeseen consequences.

For your example, parallels can be drawn to hand tools and clothing. American consumers have had a race to the bottom when it comes for demanding cheaper goods and accepting lower quality. So suppose we quit crappy bags cold turkey and start paying a bit more for higher quality, domestically produced bags instead. For both hand tools and clothing, there has always been a market for people who are willing to pay a bit more to get a lot more back in quality.

Another example could relate to bag recycling. I think recyclers now hate plastic bags because that thin film barely provides any material yet still have to be cleaned up the same as plastic bottles, which increases the cost of processing them. Thicker bags that you personally buy are not only more useful and more likely to be reused, they could now actually be thick enough to be worth collecting for cleaning and recycling.

If bag material becomes thick enough to make it worth it for recyclers to pay for bulk materials, recycling scavengers may also consider it worthwhile to pick them up off of the streets too.

About the OP, I'm assuming that it meant 0.6mm bags. If it were 6.0mm thick material, it would be more of a box than a bag: Definitely recyclable since there would be enough material to have monetary value.

Exactly. I remember when plastic bags came out to replace paper bags. The paper bag industry was in an uproar and so was the public, they were screaming, " Bring Back our Paper Bags". Now that they want to ban plastic bags they are screaming about that now. If or when they start charging for a paper bag, that will make me remember to use the six cloth grocery bags I have in my truck

Absolutely charming, in that crazy old uncle sort of way! Same behavior at the gun store as well?
