This is something that perplexed me even when I lived in the Bay area. So have at it folks. Enjoy.

The average income levels are higher in the Bay Area counties, than in Southern California.

A lot of people actually prefer the Bay Area because it's urban. If they want a beach lifestyle, SoCal actually is disappointing because the ocean is dull and cold. They may as well move to Florida where it's a fraction of the cost and the ocean is crystal clear, blue and warm.

The Bay Area has high demand because of the job market and lifestyle. There is also very limited land, so supply is limited.

I always thought it was because there is a lot more housing in SoCal. Supply and demand.

Saying Southern California is nicer than the Bay Area is like saying peas are better than carrots. It's a matter of personal taste.

I'm a little surprised you don't know that. Seriosly?

Housing is less in Southern California, but often salaries are relative. Traffic is bad either way you dice it, but LA takes the cake.

Supply and demand is the end result on why it's more expensive, and even if they built or had more housing in the vacant land around the Bay, the traffic would be at a stand still since the infrastructure could never handle it.

There was no option for "all of the above".

Bay Area-ites can't relate to LA. You'll never convince anyone who was born and raised in the area that SoCal is better. I can't even relate to that concept. Better, how? What is it you like about SoCal, OP? BTW, did you notice you're running out of water?

To each his own, but I love that SoCal is less expensive since some folks, especially those who bought at the right time, only spend a fraction of their income on housing.

Toss in being just minutes away from this, what's to complain about?:
