Hello! I've never posted on here before so I apologize beforehand because I'm sure I'll be all jumbled.

My husband and I currently live in the Butte County area. I'm not from this area and have never been crazy about it but my husband was raised here. I'm looking for suggestions of new places for us to live so I'm sorry if this is long I just want to try to give you all the info that will help.

We are in our late twenties and have a toddler. We are looking for a safe and fun place to raise our child. I would love to raise her in a town where she can play at a park without finding a hypodermic needle and go to good schools.

I work in public safety (not an officer) so ideally would like to live near a sheriff's office or police department (probably within 30 mins) We enjoy hunting, fishing, camping and just being outdoors. We fell in love with the Truckee area but can't afford that so I've been looking into the Placer County or El Dorado county area and would love some insight on the areas. They seem beautiful but so does our current town from the outside Another huge concern of ours with moving is finding good childcare especially because I work odd hours. We are open to all suggestions and would love the inside scoop =) Thanks in advance.

Have a look at the CA education performance maps: California School Performance Maps

and take a couple of weekends to go exploring.
You can also get some feel for a town by using youtube. Not as good as being there in person, but it's armchair travel at no cost.
Placerville would be a good place to consider. A whole different feel from Sacramento, but not too far from the "big city", if you need that proximity for air travel or whatever.

Sacramento forum is the most local Northern area to post your question. SoCa isn't as good for "hunting, fishing, camping and just outdoors". You might want to post there. If you want rural and inexpensive look at N.E. California.
