I don't mean to be insensitive to anyone affected by the fires, but we were kind of wondering if we would still be able to hike in Yosemite Valley area, considering the smoky air. We are coming from Louisiana, where we really have no clue about fires and air quality.

You don't want to be exerting yourselves in an area of smoky air, causing your lungs to gasp for bad air.

While its not extremely high elevation the valley is still over 4,000 feet. Couple that with crappy air quality and you might not be having a nice time. I'd wait if it were me. The last month I worked in Yosemite there was a big fire nearby. The valley was so filled with smoke that if you stood in the middle of it you couldn't see the granite walls on either side. Most miserable two nights I ever spent. Kept having nightmares about fire the smell was so overpowering. Fortunately I got a week off and left the area.

Well if you have no choice but to go, then do so, there might be some rain which would clear the area. I saw rain in the forecast but not sure who widespread it is. I wish you good luck in your travels.
