Yeah, I wonder about this and it does affect a number of people I know. That said, I can't garner too much sympathy for people affected by the home mortgage clause. They perpetuated an overpriced housing market by buying into it.

Besides it is the rich or near rich who in most cases will lose their full deduction on homes as they are limited. Those who pay cash at any level are not impacted.
