Hello. I would like to go on a day hike at Lake Tahoe. Looking for a trail that takes you to the lake so I can take some pictures. 5-6 miles out and back sounds like a reasonable distance. Would consider a little shorter or longer for a nicer trail. Want something that is wild and has a good mix of mountains, flora and, ultimately, Lake Tahoe.

It must be a day hike. I will not be camping. Also, I need to be able to walk up in good tennis shoes/mountain climbing boots. Don't want to have to pack a lot of gear.

Thanks for the tips!

Southwest Shore - Mt. Tallac Hike - Mt. Tallac is the highest peak in Tahoe. Highway 50 to Highway 89

Northwest Shore - Shirley Lake Hike - A hike that starts in Squaw Valley(ski resort)

Google these, plenty of descriptions and maps and tips.

Likely, you will driving up through Sacramento, either I-80 to North Shore or Highway 50 South Shore
Better to use basic hiking shoes, instead of tennis shoes, just pick up a pair at REI in Folsom, CA off of Highway 50, or any of the sporting goods stores in South Lake Tahoe. If headed up I-80 check out Dick's Sporting Goods in Roseville.
