I am honestly wondering how people are letting CA politicians play god with your life and money. We didn't get a vote on sanctuary cities (which shouldn't even be a vote), gas tax, housing bills (why no tax on foreigner buyers?). Knowingly giving someone HIV is now a misdemeanor? They make it giving someone ANY STD a felony, it's a life altering sickness.

He is against protecting our borders and encouraging illegal immigration, that right there is a violation of the oath he and other politicians took.

You know the answer to that as well as I do. Prop 13. Which isn't going to be changed as long as Brown's governor. Giving someone an STD being a felony is not a good idea - those matters are better handled in the civil courts not the criminal courts.

As for those other things re-electing the same bozos year after year, or not voting at all, is a vote in favor of those policies.

Civil court is a terrible place for that. Civil court is only meaningful if the party being sued has money. Do you think someone who knowingly gives another person HIV has a bunch of money to take?

That's the problem, it's very hard to get a tourist visa without family living in America and once again, it's very difficult to get lawful permanent residence without family living in America. This is my issue with this bill. It basically rewards people who cheat. If they fly into a city in California, why should they have to show their visa or anything if we intentionally go out of our way to hide and protect illegals? Either enforce immigration and border laws or don't... it's not fair to cherry pick who can break the law and who can't. It's not fair to reward cheaters.

No one is hiding illegals, that's silly. Feds are the ones who are supposed to enforce immigration law, not local cops so call Trump and have a chat with him about that.

A sanctuary state means that are a sanctuary to people who illegally are staying in the country

You are basically asking police to ignore decades worth of protocol and information sharing with the federal government. "Enforcing federal immigration law" is basically call the Feds when you arrest someone who is here illegally so that after the local issue is addressed then charges can be brought on the federal crime. It is the same thing that is done with all other federal crimes. Or do you think it is a bad idea that local police provide information about RICO cases, EPA violations, drug trafficking, etc because local police shouldn't be helping the federal government enforce laws?

No, that is not what it means.

"SB54 bars law enforcement officers in the state from arresting individuals based on civil immigration warrants, asking about a person's immigration status, keeping an undocumented inmate in jail on an immigration hold, or participating in any joint task force with federal officials for the purpose of enforcing immigration laws.

The bill does not prohibit federal immigration officials or the Department of Homeland Security from enforcing federal immigration laws in California. Instead, the law says California will not use its own law enforcement resources to help the federal government in those actions

SB54 allows local jailers to notify immigration officials when an undocumented immigrant in custody has been convicted of a violent felony, as well as hundreds of other crimes. The law largely exempts prisons in the state, allowing state corrections officials to work with immigration officials, although prison inmates have to provide written consent for federal immigration agents to interview them while in custody.

State prison officials can still hold and transfer undocumented inmates at the request of federal immigrations agents. The inmate is required to be notified of the action."

And local politicians are not supposed to legislate immigration law.
