Hello everyone, I am would like to know if anyone could give information on what it is like to live in Oakhurst.
What is the situation with the water? A lot of crime?
We are tired of having to live next to bad neighbors .
We would like some space and quietness to enjoy our senior years.
Are there any reasons as to why homes that have 1 acre or more for sale so cheap?
Any info would help ! Appreciate any feedback!

It depends on where in Oakhurst. No notable crime to speak of. The center of Oakhurst is has somewhat of a suburban atmosphere. There are two grocery stores, Von's and Raley's. I think there is a CVS, a whole lot of fast food restaurants that you can smell as you drive up Hwy 41 through Oakhurst. Plenty of real estate offices, small businesses, etc. Internet service leaves a lot to be desired. People drive down to Fresno to do any serious shopping.

Spend some time here:

Good info!

Oakhurst was on my short list for a retirement home . . . if I were to stay in CA. But I elected to retire elsewhere.

In some areas there has been issues with private wells. I think most of the problem is due to geological factors. There area few areas where the bedrock doesn't have enough fractures to store a large volume of water.

The town is at around 2,000 feet. They experience occasional snows. Several inches in the town is what is normally expected when it does snow. It is rare for snow to have much of an impact below 3,500 feet. The exception being shaded roadways where cars pack the snow into a slippery/icy mess.

Medical offices and urgent care are available. There is even a small community college campus in the town.

It's a very nice, family friendly place to live, I can't think of anything negative to say about it.

I would be wary of a home that depended, on a private well for its water supply. ( anywhere in CA)

Why?

Private wells are the only source of water in many locations.
