It's funny how the Trumplicans on here want to see California "punished" while living here.

Anything to prove a point, right?

What was it you were saying about "trolls" in that other thread?

I think its going to be much more than 1 billion- isn't it based on breach of contract/ not adhering to contract stipulations that were agreed upon?

That's what I read. It makes sense; if The Gav wants to cut the project short to just the Central Valley, or whatever his proposal was, why should the Fed portion of the funding follow through? Their funding was for an LA to Bay project, but that project no longer exists, per The Gav's decree.

So, fine. It's over, we can all get on with our lives, with one less thing to argue over. *shrug*

Vindictiveness is not a good political attribute, especially for a national leader.

Well, if Guv Gav wants to get all oppositional-defiant about it, that would drag out the project's painful death, and not accomplish anything. After all, where would he get the money to pay for even a Central Valley portion? The project was floundering already, before this. And now the project's chairman has quit, along with a B of A bigwig.

If it's truly about Trumpty-Dumpty pitching a fit over CA not supporting his Wall, I think Gav should call his bluff, and fold. I'm not sure what would be done about the bits of construction already underway, though. Dismantle them? Abandon them to rust? Some loose ends would need tidying up.

Trumpty thinks he has leverage (if this really is about his Wall). I hate manipulative people. I'm all for calling their bluff, when possible.

California isn't China; a central authority can't just decree big projects, and muster resources from a centrally-controlled economy to throw at them. Besides, that money would be better off being used for disaster relief for fires, floods and other coming extreme-weather-related events.

Now that Bernie's in the race, unseating Trumpty is almost hopeless. If The Bern's the nominee, I'm not voting. Sorry. Dems really need to be smart about this, and choose carefully. I'm not holding my breath.

Typically, with any type of grant funding, if the project is not done, or is substantially decreased, the amount of grant funding is adjusted. That's true at both federal and state levels.

It's not like California has to pay anything back probably since grant monies aren't usually released except in completion stages or upon final completion and acceptance of the project.
