Yep, we in Washington state are the most regressive tax system which is why I wouldn't leave the state while I was working but now that I retired, I might.

California has a better tax structure to tax the rich than most states but the problem is that the rich are mobile and can just leave and go to Washington state or Texas and get a nearly free lunch.

So true...But the rich have never had any problems with getting a free lunch, nor do they have any morality when it comes to paying their fair share.

The real take away from all this is that in every state, those earning between $50K and $150K shoulder the majority of the tax burden. They make too much to take advantage of many government programs and too little to take advantage of Washington's tax relief.

Actually the Rich pay about 50% of all taxes, it is just they are getting wealthier far faster than anyone else so the divide between the rich and even the Upper Middle class, let alone the general middle class, is growing.

That may be your belief but the actual data shows that the middle quintile is $39k to $62k

The State Income tax hits higher earners more.

Hilarious and you beat me to it. What a stupid comparison. The OP really thought he was on to something here. Without taking into account the COL, this means nothing. You're absolutely right Taksan. This is not even close to an apples-to-apples comparison. Who in their right mind thinks a family making $62k in a metropolitan area of CA lives the same as one in Texas. That's gotta be the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
