“A few dry months doesn’t really make a drought,” said Chris Orrock, spokesman for the Department of Water Resources. He added that two consecutive dry years, however, could start to affect the state’s water supply.

Still, nearly 70% of the state, including much of the Central Coast and Los Angeles County, is considered to be abnormally dry. About 23% of the state, including large swaths of the San Joaquin Valley and portions of the Sierra Nevada home to about 5.9 million people, is considered to be in moderate drought conditions, according to maps released Thursday by the U.S. Drought Monitor."

As is usually the case, the poor Central Valley gets little more than token, footnote, afterthought mention even though it is there (Madera, Fresno, Kings, Tulare, and Kern) counties that need it the most and are arguably the most important parts of the state when it comes to agriculture and the need for water and rain.

Above-average rainfall is forecast for March.

Official March 2020 Forecast For The Southwestern United States; California Called On To Prepare Flood Precautions Now – Southern California Weather Force

We shall see. A good amount of rain in March could bring us up to about average for the year, and I'd be very happy with that. Not every year can be like 2018-19, which was way above average.

U.S. Drought Monitor data released Thursday (4/9) show that less of California is abnormally dry, and more of the state is drought-free.

The improvement is mostly in Southern California and along the Central Coast, while data for Northern California show little change.

LA Times is behind a paywall; please try to link to sites with free content. It's frustrating not to be able to see links.

Do you know how to google? Great way to find alternate source for topics.

I do, but while I may click on a link if it's offered, I don't often care enough to go googling for information based on someone's one-liner. I suspect I'm not the only person on C-D who feels the same way. Make it quick and easy or don't bother.

She did make it easy. You’re not willing to go to the paywall link is all. For many readers it’s no problem.

I've often searched for information about weather, climate change, and the drought (in southern California) on other sites; it isn't always there.
