I love this weather on a Thanksgiving because I feel good staying hunkered down, warm and dry, with great eats.

We had rain yesterday. It's dry today but chilly with gray skies. A nice day to stay inside. I-5 between Yreka and the Oregon border was closed last night due to spin outs and heavy snow. Cal Trans closed it and boy oh boy were people in a snit over it. Many forgot to bring chains and some think they can still drive 70 mph in it. I'm just happy I wasn't on the road.

12+ inches of snow at our house. Its nice to live in the state that gets the most snow of anywhere in North America. Great for skiing

I have a real hard time ginning up any sympathy for those who found themselves stuck in traffic, stranded, or what have you.

Not like we weren't told for at least a week that a storm was coming and that closures (Grapevine, Cajon, Tehachapi) would be posible if not likely.

Yet they pressed on anyway. Then cry 'woe is me'.

So how about that sterling trip planning?

It must be a beautiful scene with the snow.

Good to carry a warm sleeping bag, matches, ax, saw, propane, lighter, camping cup, food supplies, chemical hand warmers, chains, shovel when traveling through the mountains in snow season... I remember once I was stuck somewhere on the interstate in one of the Northern states (I think Wyoming) due to storm closure, had to sleep on the roadside in sedan car - not too bad with down sleeping bag and propane heater.

I feel like I was just reading 2-3 weeks ago that the drought was going to be back big time since no rain was expected through December. I don't know what weather science is doing but it's not predicting the weather.

Our niece and hubby were heading the opposite direction from So Ca north. Obviously they didn't make it so spent the day chilling in San Fernando Valley.

Know how you feel. We cancelled a 1 hr drive to the casino here in NWAR yesterday. Our daughter and son in law were in from Florida and we had planned to go to the casino, the guys could watch football and we would play slots. All we had to do was listen to the weather report, walk outside for and few minutes and we knew we did not want to tackle the cold. There are times that like it or not you need to stay indoors and enjoy the fireplace
