“California won't allow any distribution of new coronavirus vaccines in the nation’s most populous state until it is reviewed by the state’s own panel of experts, Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday.”

Why is this “worse”?

If Trump and company jam a vaccine through (maybe from Russia?) pretty sure an awful lot of folks will appreciate hearing from Newsom’s panel of experts.

Please. Russia??? Take off the tin foil hat. There are plenty of experts outside of California that are qualified to approve a vaccine.

If it was just Trump pushing it through I would agree. However, the FDA had said they won’t rush anything through. It has to be done right.

I don’t trust Newsom to do the right thing. Someone already pointed this out, but it’s interesting that his new color coded system doesn’t have a level where all restrictions are lifted. The best you can get is minimal where “ Most indoor business operations are open with modifications.” That means not all are open and the ones that are open need to be modified.

It seems like he intends to keep restrictions on permanently. If not, why isn’t there a level with no restrictions?

Your hatred of Trump is clouding your judgement. The FDA won’t let it be pushed through while Newsom will likely take at least a year to decide if the commoners will be allowed to have his highness allow them to take the vaccine.

I wonder if that’s even legal. For sure they’ll be multiple lawsuits if it gets that far.

The companies that field a vaccine that safely protects against coronavirus infection — even if it prevents infection in just 50% of cases — will become rich and respected. (There probably will be more than one vaccine candidate authorized by the FDA.)

But the company whose vaccine sickens a significant number of Americans will wish it had never heard of Operation Warp Speed, the government program to accelerate vaccine development.

Trump has the legal authority to make the FDA approve an experimental vaccine on his say-so because he is the chief executive and this is an executive agency.

In the midst of a national emergency, the FDA has a great deal of legal latitude in granting emergency use authorization to drugs or vaccines. It can also modify its criteria as circumstances change.

The Trump administration has overruled scientists on a wide range of issues overseen by several federal regulatory agencies...

“Tinfoil hat”? Lol ...

On Aug 11, 2020, Russia became the first country in the world to approve a vaccine against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The vaccine, which is based on two adenovirus vectors, was developed by the Gamaleya National Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology (Moscow, Russia). Its approval was announced by President Vladimir Putin. “I know [the vaccine] works quite effectively, helps to develop strong immunity, and has gone through all the necessary tests”, declared Putin at a cabinet meeting. Nonetheless, there are widespread concerns that the approval is premature. At the time of approval, the vaccine had not even started phase 3 trials, nor had any results on the earlier stage trials been published.

Putin Announces Approval Of A 2nd Unproven Coronavirus Vaccine
Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced the approval of a second new coronavirus vaccine in as many months – but neither has completed the kind of extensive and rigorous three-phase trials required in the U.S.

Speaking during a televised news conference, Putin said the new vaccine developed by Siberian biotech company Novosibirsk's Vektor [State Virology and Biotechnology Center], a former Soviet-era bioweapons lab.

Large-scale studies, such as those required for vaccines developed in the U.S., are designed to assess not only if a vaccine works, but whether it is free from dangerous side effects that might only show up once millions of people are immunized.

EpiVacCorona, described as a "peptide-based shot," has yet to even begin such trials and its "registration" — a bureaucratic procedure undertaken by the Russian Health Ministry, which amounts to regulatory approval — is likely to be viewed as risky, at best.

Researchers highlight ‘questionable’ data in Russian coronavirus vaccine trial results A group of researchers have expressed concern about repetitive patterns of data in a paper describing early-phase clinical trials of Russia’s coronavirus vaccine — the first jab worldwide to be approved for widespread use.

In an open letter to the study authors, who published the trial results1 this month in The Lancet, the researchers highlight values that seem to be duplicated, and warn that the paper presents its results only as box plots without providing a detailed breakdown of the data on which they are based. “While the research described in this study is potentially significant, the presentation of the data raises several concerns which require access to the original data to fully investigate”, the letter says. It has so far been signed by almost 40 scientists.

You can link to all the Russia vaccine articles you want. Yes I heard about the Russia "Vaccine".. So what? Tin foil hat indeed when you start believing that Trump is going to take that vaccine and somehow get all the medical experts to sign off on it.

My hatred of Trump is based on his actions. Perhaps you haven’t been paying attention?

Government agency will investigate Trump administration political influence over FDA, CDC
An independent government watchdog agency has agreed to investigate alleged political influence from the Trump administration over the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration.

The Government Accountability Office, an independent legislative agency that investigates, audits and evaluates government operations for Congress, accepted a Senate request on Monday to examine potential political interference and "determine whether this interference has violated the agencies’ scientific integrity and communication policies.

Note the bold above: the [GOP] controlled Senate is concerned enough with Trump’s meddling to trigger an investigation.

But wait, there’s more ...

Exclusive: FDA enforcement actions plummet under Trump From monitoring clinical trials and approving medicines and vaccines, to ensuring the safety of blood transfusions, medical devices, groceries, and more, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is one of the nation’s most vital watchdogs. By several measures, however, FDA’s compliance and enforcement actions have plummeted since President Donald Trump took office, Science has found.

The agency’s “warning letters”—a key tool for keeping dangerous or ineffective drugs and devices and tainted foods off the market—have fallen by one-third, for example. Such letters typically demand swift corrections to protect public health and safety. FDA records from Trump’s inauguration through 22 May show the agency issued 1033 warning letters, compared with 1532 for the most recent equivalent period under former President Barack Obama. Compared with the start of the Obama presidency, Trump-era letters dropped by nearly half.

Exactly. I trust Newsom to do the right thing far less than independent medical experts.
