Apple Farm for breakfast--best scones!
Big Sky all day--eclectic food
Splash for clam chowder
Novo downtown for great CA fusion food and eating seated over a creek
Buona Tavloa (sp?) for Italian
That only scratches the surface.

Default good eats

I second Big Sky.
Also
Woodstocks Pizza
SLO Brewery
Hudsons - Burgers/diner
Margies Diner

and this isn't a restaurant, but...
Taste - really cool high tech do-it-yourself wine bar

I second the other recommendations and I'd say Mother's Tavern. I've met a few people who think it's overrated but I like it. Although, I think they changed the menu in the past year because the last time I went the food was a bit different.

It's on Higuera. It is like two buildings over from Gumball Alley. It's been around for quite awhile, as far as I know.

I ate there yesterday morning on the way out of town. It was pretty good.

Oh, has anyone been to Mee Hong Low? I saw it when visiting the mission Saturday and got a laugh out of the name.

If you want a plate where I know you'll go away full, it's Margie's Diner. You're probably better off splitting a plate with someone.
