hello - i am currently in DFW considering relocating to Sonoma County (within 1 or 2 years) with my husband & kids (currently 10 and 11). I grew up in Santa Rosa so primary reason is to be near family, and also the weather would be nice too

The biggest thing weighing on our minds is the housing prices, obviously. Especially considering my husband at least will be working from home so we need a dedicated office/study space (likely two, since i may also be remote/WFH at least part of the time). And at this stage, each of our kids would need their own room.

Wildfires are another concern, which is another reason why i'm thinking Rohnert Park would be good. Also with our salaries/professions (engineers), I don't think we could afford Santa Rosa, at least a 2,500+ sq ft, 4bd house which is what i think we are looking for.

From searching online, i'm seeing many newer homes (build 2018 or later) and new developments near Sonoma State Univ. One of them (Sycamore) looks perfect for us, but looks like almost entirely sold out. Any thoughts on these areas? And on the builders? I'm assuming RP isn't totally built out and there will be new developments coming in the next year or so? Any thoughts on RP-Cotati unified school district? And on magnet middle schools? Thanks in advance!
