Oh great, yet another thread on this very subject.
Some people live in fear, and don't read past the headline.

People are so scared of change.

Meanwhile, if the government allowed a widespread blackout that inconvenienced you for more than a day, you'd then be crying that why didn't they do anything about it beforehand?

So irritating to listen to people like this non-stop.

What a silly reaction. You misunderstand freedom with responsibility and include outright misinformation. Why are you so uptight?

This new law applies to only new tvs being bought in 2011. The legislature can NEVER take your tv from you. No one can unless they steal it. Ca is a nanny governed state with the worse legislature in ca history (17% approval rating) & a moron for a govenor.

Deja vu - there's another really big thread on this very subject. The state isn't going to do anything with existing TV's, only future models. Just like they did for low-flush toilets 15 or so years ago... energy efficient appliances are nothing new. If CA never did anything like this, big corporations would still be dumping waste into the CA rivers to save money... wait, they stopped that didn't they?

Actually it was the California Energy Commission. The legislature had nothing to do with it, and I'm not sure how cowardice has anything to do with it.

"The 5-0 vote by the California Energy Commission is just the latest effort by the state to secure its place in the forefront of the environmental movement."

I for one am happy that California is on the leading edge of environmental responsibility and I think a majority of the people in this state agree.

Energy should be seen as a commodity. Need more? Make more. But the left wingers in California have cut off new energy production. Power plants don't get built here. So we gets silly laws like this and the light bulb law. Do you know that the 100 watt bulb as you now know it will become illegal in 2012?

The socialists who run California idolize Europe for all it's greatness. Very misguided. But one thing Europe does have right is that they get the majority (70-80% in some countries) of their electricity from nuclear. But say nuclear near a left wing socialist and you will get sneers and obstruction.

Speaking of "misguided," I think what you write is both silly & reactionary. Both Republican & Democratic governors have signed bills protecting the environment for decades in California. Eventually the rest of the nation follows the California example & the TV industry will do likewise if they want to sell their products in the state.

Socialism, btw, means solving problems for the betterment of the community. If you disagree with that than you are a very small minority in California.

This is the new republic of california. 100 watt light bulbs do suck up a lil power but what business is it of the weasles in sacramento ? Unless the state is paying your electric bill they need to **** off & get on a one way coach plane ride to afganistan. I know for a fact the tax payers will gladly pay the airfare. Oh....no meals in flight. Just stale bread & warm water.
