Demonstration Planned After Vallejo Mayor's Remarks - News Story - KTVU San Francisco

Didnt he defeat an openly gay opponent in the mayoral race last year?

Quote:
In the story, Davis said: "They're committing sin and that sin will keep them out of heaven. But you don't hate the person. You hate the sin that they commit."
From a religious standpoint, I don't see a problem with this statement because churches frequently warn parishoners about what they view as sin.

But if he's saying this as Mayor talking about his municipal govt, then its totally out of place, uncalled for and offensive.

Gays have just as much chance at going to a place that most likely doesn't exist as straights do.

Exactly. The fact that we still retain as much superstitution and religious tomfoolery as we do in 2009/2010 is quite unfortunate and it is ridiculous statements like this that really anger me. It caters to a population of zealots and fuels hate and judgement.

I don't know how the mayor of Vallejo, of all places, has the time or desire to make these types of statements anyway. For starters, how about you figure out how to repair the half of the city that's a total wasteland, get the fire station in Glencove opened, and attempt to build the schools Vallejo promised to Glencove and Hiddenbrook so that people with money will actually move there.

Ignorance.

As a human being, he is entitled to his opinion on gays, abortion, heaven, flying saucers and anything else. It is good that he put it out in the open, because now he will be zealously watched to make sure that his opinions stay just that and don't affect his actions.

Sounds like the kind of politician that gets busted in a freeway rest stop soliciting gay sex.

This is the kind of statement made by politicans that can come back to bite them in the butt. He can expect to be under a microscope from here on out, and if there is any buggery or altar boy shenanigans in his background or future, it'll come out. So to speak.

For a mayor of a bankrupt city to say such a thing is frankly completely stupid.
Considering that historically, "the gay sinners"have moved into places that are economically depressed and revitalize, restore, open businesses and rejuvenate those cities with $$$$$$.
What an idiot!
Nice way to incite a riot.
