Either way it doesn't change the fact that democrats still can't balance a budget even when they raise taxes.
The Republicans when they briefly controlled the state legislature in the '90s (the only time they controlled the Legislature since the '50s) were no different (although the crisis was nowhere near as bad as today)

That's MORALITY, I was speaking more of nanny state laws such as anti-smoking laws, helmet laws, cell phone laws, laws banning fast food in South LA, trans fats, trying to regulate what type of lightbulbs you can by, etc... I'm not saying I necessarily disagree with some of them and I do see the reasoning behind them but fundamentally they are nanny state laws nonetheless.
And the support for those was bipartisan. The statewide indoor smoking ban was implemented by Pete Wilson, he wasn't a Dem. Jeb Bush implemented a smoking ban in FL, he isn't a Dem. The only one of those which you mentioned which was only supported by Dems was the South L.A. fast food ban and that's because L.A. is such a Dem city.

Both parties pretty much operate the same way, just on opposite end of the ideological spectrum.
And on some issues they're in agreement, as cited above.

It's neck and neck and "comb-over" still has a hairline! This could make all the difference in the end.
