The last time Jerry Brown was governor of California, the state had one of its largest surpluses in its history. Now it has one of its largest deficits. I think it's time, again, for an experienced hand on the tiller, instead of a hand in the till.

I hope Jerry wins.

The idea of Jerry's hand on my tiller makes me nervous.

And during that surplus, Jerry allowed property taxes to go sky-high, without touching the surplus. He was against Prop 13 before he campaigned for governor. Then he changed his tune and won.

I hope he goes down.

ETA: Gray Davis was his chief of staff. Enough reason for me to vote against him.

If elected, Brown's terms as governor would make a nice set of bookends on the downfall of California.

It's time for California to elect some new blood. Out with the old, in with the new. The good ol' boy network has come to an end. Hopefully...

Hopefully, yes, but doubtful. Chances are good that he'll win because the electorate has a short memory.

For all the moaning and groaning about how public employees unions have driven the state into bankruptcy, few seem to remember that it was Jerry Brown who served the state up to those unions at the 11th hour of his final term as Governor.

If he wins then California deserves what it gets!

Sounds like some of the clubs we belong to, no one wants to step up and do the job so let's call on those who have done it before. This is kinda scarey and sad. Remind me not to even visit CA again if he gets elected..

Unhappy Mr. Pessimist Weighs In....

Judging by the poll numbers, it looks like Jerry Brown will be facing Meg Whitman, the former CEO of eBay. I think at best, Whitman might resemble Pete Wilson if elected. Neither one will be a real step up from Schwarzenegger, I'm afraid to say. The unions and their obsequious sycophants in the state Senate and Assembly will ensure that California's fiscal health will stay in perilous shape for a long time to come. California is a true Petri dish the other 49 states should look at as far as how not to manage a state.

Whether Brown or Whitman win in November, it seems hard to believe that California's bond rating won't be eventually downgraded all the way to junk bond status. It's already the worst of all the 50 states, and has been this way for some time now.

If anyone wants to visit California, it's probably best to fly into Reno and not venture too far west of U.S. 395 along the eastern Sierras. The mountain lakes accessible by spur roads from 395 are spectacular, and you kind of forget how close to Sacramento and the Bay Area you are when hiking or putt-putting along in a little boat on South Lake or Lake Mary.
