Yeah, it's a bit expensive (although I live in Los Osos, so it's a big more manageable) and the college kids are irritating, but in general I can't ask for a more lovely area. I have Montana De Oro state park up the street, the Elfin Forest in my backyard, it's quiet (well...except for my douchebag neighbor, but even that's tolerable for the most part) and very dog and pedestrian friendly.

I don't do 'nightclubs' and I'm not a huge fan of 'shopping' and I prefer taking a walk by the estuary to dressing up and going bar hopping.

So yes, I have essentially found my perfect place.
And near one of the most beautiful 9 hole golf courses in the USA. Sea Pines!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm thinking Yucca Valley, California, which is "supposed" to be small but quaint, is kinda' secluded in the Mohave Desert. HOT in the summer with some snow in the winter. Joshua Tree Monument is close by. Personally, I like the California deserts. And while I think "low" rent in desirable places is merely a dream, housing in the deserts is definitely cheaper than living anywhere in western California.

However, I've not been to Yucca Valley itself ~ I've merely read about it. Hopefully someone else can add to this.

Twinkle Toes, are you out there????

Another suggestion: the town of Paradise, nestled in the foothills in northern California.

One thing you do have are heavenly springs. God, how I miss springtime in the great San Joaquin! Nowhere else has them so good.

Beautiful in the fall, happy in the spring, funny in the summer and melancolic in the winter.

Please, some ideas?? And dont say anything about sperling best places or money magazine.Just for people that have been living in one of those places.

THAAAANKS!!!
I have lived in both western and eastern NC and it comes pretty close. I would say Morganton in Burke County with Lake James nearby. The trade-off is the economy is not that great but I assume that you are independently wealthy and don't need to work.

Houses are not too terribly expensive, there is snow in the winter and the spring, fall and summer are fabulous. The taxes are not bad either.

The only reason that I'm not there now is because I'm not independently wealthy and need to make a living.

And now the tree fruit will start ripening.

The Fruit Trail is gearing up in Fresno County. Nothing like fresh fruit from a roadside fruit stand.

Last Sunday the LA Times travel section featured the Fruit Trail, its just a few weeks away until the stands are open.

I have one of those too. I wish there was a secret to getting rid of douchebag neighbors, besides ME moving.

I love Sunset Terrace right next to Sea Pines. That's my favorite Los Osos neighborhood.
