Speaking of Stanford's lofty reputation, the Stanford endowment's portfolio is based on a risk exposure fairly similar to PERS...and a pretty much identical long-term growth rate of about 8%.

Could be some of the motivation behind the current proposal to alter future pensions:


Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sen. Dennis Hollingsworth, R-Murrieta, called today for significant changes to state employee retirement benefits during a press event to announce the Senate Republican leader's pension and health benefit bill, SB 919.
