I came to that conclusion because it seems most restorations are "cosmetic" rather than "gut jobs" (replacing systems). The fact that they don't have a/c -- and the existing electrical panels can't handle them, much less all the other electronic gadgets we use these days -- lead me to think they're not the way to go. Personally, I'd be happy with a porta-potty, using campground showers, and going ALL electric, so perhaps adding an a/c and updating the electric to handle that, a heater, and other electronics would suffice. Do vintage trailers typically have sufficient insulation for year-round living?

What are your capabilities, (interest and ability to do this yourself)
Companies that truly 'refurb' are plentiful and VERY expensive. (they cater to the 'retro' crowd)

What are your climate desires (regions and seasons). If you are living Year Round in WY or ND it is much different that TX, southern CA / AZ, or FL

How many miles / yr do you expect to travel?

What size tow vehicle do you plan to use.?

Of course a 'generic' older trailer is not gonna have the modern / compact / effective insulation technologies. So... You do your own, pay to have it done, or Buy new. (or near new)

It sounds as if one can assume that most restored vintage campers being sold online are less than reliable.
I see new retro trailers on lots at the coast but I don't know what brand they are.

As a restored classic if you get one that's been completely restored there should be no problem except you could buy a new trailer for much less.
