I was making breakfast this morning looking out over the back yard, when it occurred to me there was just one thing that would make this nicer: Making breakfast at the Grand Canyon.

There's an RV show at WestWorld here in Scottsdale for the next few days. Is it dangerous to go to an RV show if you don't know exactly what you want? Did you end up buying something you didn't know you wanted?

I do know I want a separate bedroom and I want to be able to carry both Segways (i2 version) in the basement so we don't need a toad.

It's only dangerous if you are an impulse buyer. We went to a big RV show after going to 4-5 local dealerships so we knew exactly what we wanted. We still didn't buy at the show, but instead went to the local dealer that had the model we liked best at the show. We still got it for $5,000 under the MSRP.

Been able to resist the urge-to-slurge ever since marriage. (Moderate each other's spending...$$$ accountability / respect for each other)

Fixed breakfast last month while literally overlooking the Grand canyon.... Using our $12 campstove. Driving our $0.07 / mile rental car, camped for free most nights.

But. bought DW a 20 mpg 'woman's MH about 10 yrs ago. Has a huge picture window for the inclement days we need to cook indoors. Back up to the view and enjoy. (Dinky rig, fits anywhere. )

Only when she's gone will I go fetch my Silver Eagle MH.

If I depart first.... After my estate sale.... She will have a greater time going solo in her Beloved RV!

She may send it in for rehab, but..... It only has 40k miles and is immaculate.

At our age, I suggest getting what best suits you and then try to wear it out. Enjoy the time and money you have left. Next year may bring a different chapter / capabilities / desire.

Danger Will Robinson... danger-danger!

Shows are for looking, crawling in, lookin' round, finding out what you DON'T like. Anything shiny and new is a trap! Lol ... Gotta know if it's diesel or gas. Ford is coming out with a new big block gas engine (Godzilla) and will be all the rage in small to medium RV's.

The value is in new, slightly used.

About 3/4 of the way through the show, we sat down in a coach and made a short list.

We want:

A/C on demand in 115 degree weather
Quiet A/C, quiet generator
Large basement spaces for Segway storage
Good DC inverter (don't ask me what that means...what's "good"?)
Ample coach battery power
Diesel. Period.

We don't need:

2 bathrooms
So many TVs

Would be nice to have:

Washer/dryer combo

None of the vehicles ticked all our boxes, because the basement storage for the Segways is non-negotiable. They obviate the need for a toad. DH does not want to tow anything, ever. The one that came closest was a 2018 Fleetwood RV Pace Arrow 38k.

High wattage from a reputable manufacturer.

Really, you're looking for a diesel RV with basement storage. Everything else on your list can be added/upgraded. And an extra bathroom can be converted to more storage.

38K? Was that a typo? They run around 160K.

If it "was" 38K, it's sold. Gotta be a typo.

There was no $ sign. Maybe that was a model number having something to do with a length of 38 feet?
