My car doesn't have rails to attach a carrier and I'm wondering if this is something I should have installed. While researching carriers, I did see some that say they work without them but I'm unfamiliar with car carriers and not sure what to trust. I also haven't seen any Nissan Cubes or Kia Souls with a rooftop carrier.
My only concern is the spare tire. It was underneath the car and the mechanic (roadside assistance) took it from under there and no one has put it back. Now that I'm back home, I could probably have my trusty mechanic here put it back under the car.
BUT, I've already driven on bad roads coming here from Arizona, one of which I bottomed out so parts of me want it kept away from under the car. I do have to get it out of the inside of the car because it is taking up too much valuable space.
I'll answer my own question. It looks like Rightline Gear has a rooftop carrier that can be used with or without roof side rails. Since this will be for the spare tire, shower tent and gazebo, it looks like it will work. I may also put the camp chair in but it folds up small so will see.
At 89.95, it's worth it to have the space in the car.
Put the tire back up under the car. Driving around with it on the roof is going to drag your mileage down. ON the off chance that it will get damaged when you bottom out? You're over thinking it.
I have one like this that was very useful when moving.
Thanks. That's about the size I was looking for. I've got to find a garage here before I leave in the fall and will have them put it back under the car.
