The first song that came to my head was Wheat Kings by the Tragically Hip. Maybe not a "celebrate Canada" song, but definitely Canadian. There are other Hip songs that might qualify too.

Maybe not entirely contemporary, but Gilles Vigneault's Mon Pays...

You don't have a country, Sir, you have winter.

Brrrr. It's wet and chilly here. It's been a weird Spring so far. Usually by now we would have a few days of warmer weather. Monday should be 14C....still not beach weather.

I don't think this song celebrates Canada, the lyrics are odd.

Canadian Railroad Trilogy....by Gordon Lightfoot

Lightfoot was commissioned by CBC in late 1966 to write a song for
a TV special to celebrate Canada’s Centennial which aired on january 1st 1967.

The song is a masterpiece ...a triumph for the amazing canadian songwriter Gordon Lightfoot.

An epic song clocking in at almost 7 minutes, it celebrates the making of the transcontinental
railway across canada back in the 1880s.

The song changes tempo a number of times...speeding up in
sections just like a train...if you hear the song you’ll know what I mean.

I'm an American who knows nothing about Canada. I have the lyrics of that song almost memorized. A masterpiece.

Question? Can I take VIA Rail to the seal rookeries in Saskatchewan or Edmonton's beautiful beaches?
