The answer to your question is no. Try that and you'd get reported and permanently deported and any employer who hired an illegal immigrant under the table would get reported, charged and fined. They might even lose their business license and go to jail.
You are a bit too bookish (and self-righteous). In theory what you said is true, but in reality, it is really not that different from the US. I myself know several illegal immigrants in Toronto who eventually became PR. There are plenty of ways to do it, depending on how desperate and patient you are.

I encourage those who want to move to Canada to do so, in one way or another. I dislike the fact that the chance of birthplace should largely determine a person's life.

...not to mention the fact that living as an illegal immigrant in a country would negate any real or imaginary advantage it would have over your nation of origin (especially if we are talking about a first world country)

Refugee status! and then don't show up for court date. They still take care of you, though

Its a bit more difficult than that. Sure its a part of it but the government of Canada doesn't just give you a PR card just because you are married to a Canadian. The Canadian has to sponsor the person and its quite the process. There is loads of paperwork that needs to be done. You have to show evidence the relationship is valid and not just one of convenience. Immigration Canada will pour over documents, pictures, financial records to ensure that the relationship is genuine. This process can take up to years. It is not uncommon for Immigration Canada to do interviews with the applicants either. As a Sponsor, the Canadian is financially responsible for the person for 3 years.. The country makes the process strenuous to ensure they get serious candidates and not just the - well marry a Canadian type - its so easy peasy. Believe me, its not easy and its extraordinarily tough process.

You can than Bill OReilly for that! He pressed Canada so hard for years for being so easy to let people in regardless. They got the message and the heat. So they had to drastically change the rules to let people in. Otherwise, they'd be blamed for terrorism in the U.S. by harboring them.

I doubt very much Canadas immigration policies are influenced by the likes of some FOX talking head named Bill OReilly.

Oh right; that must be why we're the country currently grappling with 13 million illegals!

O'Reilly should put a plank over his pie-hole until the U.S. solves it's border and immigration problems.

9/11 group of terrorists entered via student visas and signed up for flight classes with no one checking up on them whatsoever after being warned a big event involving airliners was planned.

O'Reilly? You gotta be kidding me! He should be Trump's running mate; you could bill them as "The Dead Cat Head Kid and Wind Bag Willy".

Mr O’Reilly’s 17-year-old daughter told a court-appointed forensic examiner last year that she saw her father dragging her mother down a staircase by the neck.
Is this the kind of character people are putting their trust in for sage advice down in the US these days? And one wonders why the USA is going through a rough time.Maybe time to raise the bar down there eh.

To address the ops dilemma,if you are going to come to Canada do it the legal way or dont do it at all, this pie in the sky notion of working under the table will leave you with a transient income of less than minimum wage resulting in your probability of ending up homeless a very real possibility and because of your illegal status you wont be able to take advantage of Canadas many social programs aimed at the poor.,also not really a lifestyle thats going to attract a quality woman.
In your first post you claimed to be American which makes me wonder why you would subject yourself to all this hardship to get to Canada when you are already living in a pretty good country. My advice? get a job,get a life, raise a family, and give up on this absurd Canada dream.
