Elizabeth has had her share of personal struggles. She did indeed have every intention of taking a back seat within her party but the selected replacement's' failure to deliver any impetus forward and caused only further acrimony within . . so there she sits . . .alone.
The problem of today's polarized politics is one of all parties in Canada trying to carve their particular quadrant out of the "center" of a round pie.
Climate change is important but keeps getting shoved down the list due to world events overtaking it being the center of discussion. How do we eliminate fossil fuels when we have NO replacement that lives up to it's ballyhoo'ed expectations? A party choosing that exact sliver of concern to found it's entire platform upon is going to find slim pickings indeed.
Just when the electorate can take a pause and consider the state of the environment as it's priority; along comes another issue of import creating an immediate in-your-face, right-this-second, minefield to navigate.
Yves-François Blanchet comment about a " false majority " and not what Canadians voted for, on the surface may sound correct, but I disagree.
The NDP and the Liberals have agreed to work together on only certain issues. Isn't that what we want government to do? Work together when it benefits Canadians?
As for provincial versus federal jurisdictions, it depends. I don't know what the plans are, but if it's just to set up a national framework for dental and pharmaceutical coverage, then it would be no different than what we have with the Canada Health Act. My guess is that these programs could just be added to that.
