We are looking to find a clean & healthy place to live that we can find a home walking distance to a good elementary school and market with natural/organic food available that is as close to possible to good skiing.
Would like an area with a decent amount of winter sunshine without an overly harsh/long winter. Local golf and basketball would be a plus as would a few good restaurants with a bit of variety.
By GOOD skiing I mean:
reliable snow
variety of terrain including steeps, trees/glades
large area with relatively few skiers where the powder lasts more than a few hours.
decent weather between storms
Thanks in advance!
You and your family may like this little town,Pakenham, it is not far from Ottawa, has lots of lovely land and many people who like to eat healthy foods, ie organic gardening, health food stores, crafts, nice restaurants, nice local schools, etc, most likely they have golf courses too, and may have basketball....it is worth looking into anyhow.................

I only have rec.'s in BC. Whistler is just fabulous, but very expensive. Also can be busy during peak season holidays. the snow is good, facilities and ski snowboard school are top notch. The village is heavenly, IMO. We have been twice and are planning to go again. I think the Peak to Peak gondola is going to open soon, but not sure if it will winter of 08-09.
I have friends who have wonderful things to say about Sun Peaks in Kamloops and Big White, Kelowna. I don't know a lot about either never having been, but both are very family-oriented from what I hear. Whistler can be more suited to young people looking to go out and have fun apres skiing. We were usually back in our room by 7:30 and almost asleep!
Fernie, you can do whitefish and fernie together. Fly to Kalispel, drive half an hour to whitefish, big mountain is awesome, then 1.5 hours north to Fernie... A little more rugged there than Whitefish...
Rossland, Trail, Nelson area. Great hills, even organic produce home delivery, lower priced housing than the coast or the Okanogon areas, good snow, decent weather, small populations, lots of nice golf courses, some right close and more within 1-3 hours of driving. As for amenities the area has some good restaurants for sure, as for shopping Nelson is very ecclectic with Walmart being the only department store. Nelson is full of small shops with lots of interesting shops. Trail has more large stores such as Zellers, Walmart and Canadian Tire. Rossland is small with a few interesting shops and the necessary grocery and drug stores. Ski hills are Whitewater and Red Mountain. GOOD LUCK!
