Next time you come back look for Nanaimo Bars at a good pastry shop.
.
Maybe because they couldn't pronounce it, or they are part the secret cartel to keep all things Canadian out of sight and mind for the rest of the world, but Nanaimo Bar in New York are called New York Slice. Ya, ya I know the article has errors such as "What I know about Nanaimo Bars is that usually they contain mint. Mine do not." Wrong. The CAN contain mint, but the original recipe never did.
There's a good number of vinyards and wineries throughout the Fraser Valley too, as well as on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. Wines of Canada BC's Fraser Valley
The wines are not bad up here. I pick some up at the duty-free shop on the way back down each time.
You should have tasted Baby Duck, Baby Bear, Carlo Rossi or Black Tower 30+ years ago. That was pretty much it unless you ponied up a ton for foreign. I never developed a wine palate until I left Canada...
Today’s wine industry has Free Trade to thank. Once the US tariffs were dropped it was clear that the Gallo brothers produced more wine in a day than Canada produced in a year and a different approach was needed.
Many of them do. Look at the link I posted that has the Fraser Valley wineries. The types of wines made are listed.
I like Blue Heron products, they are just a few miles from me and they have quite a variety of fruit wines and blends, their white cranberry wine and apple dessert wine is delicious.
Baby Duck! Omg, what memories THAT just brought back. HahaHAha!
I remember it, never drank it. Also Colona wine in a jug. Ugh. There was another drink called Lonesome Charlie. Again I never drank it but ( being sexist but factual here ) it seemed to attract mainly female drinkers.

I remember the print and billboard ads for Lonesome Charlie: "Lonesome Charlie's lookin' for a friend," with a photo of a pretty girl holding a bottle. It was a wine cooler before such things were known as wine coolers.
Some of those old Canadian wines were advertised hilariously. Anybody remember "Maria Christina" strolling in slow-motion through her backyard party, making sure her guests were well-supplied with "Maria Christina" wine, while a choir sang, "Mari-i-i-a Christi-i-i-na"?
