Hello all!

Just wondering, but would anyone happen to know what the drive might be like from Atlanta to Canada during early March, particularly through the eastern part of New York and even more specifically through Albany and the Adirondack Park Preserve. We're an array of college students mainly from the south or from the midwest so our experience going through mountains and dealing with snow are not all that fantastic. So, we basically would like to know if we are out of our leagues or minds (a.k.a. will we get lost in a snowdrift or stranded on a mountain).

Any information or words of wisdom or warning would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Katherine

I wouldn't be too worried about it. The roads in New York State and Quebec are very well-maintained in winter. The only problem I could see if you drive right into a huge storm while it is happening. So be sure to keep a constant eye on weather reports for the areas you'll be driving through. But even in the case of storms things often keep moving, and within a matter of a few hours traffic is usually back onto bare pavement on the Interstates or Quebec's Autoroutes.

Read up on a Web site that has winter driving tips (especially regarding braking, stopping distances, etc.) before you leave, but for the most part you should be OK getting there with a vehicle that has all-season tires.

I drove from Atlanta to Vancouver in November and hit a snow storm in South Dakota. As Acajack said, I don't think you'll have significant problems. Try not to drive during the night and listen to the local radio for update weather bulletins and road closures. News/Talk AM and public radio stations tend to have the most accurate information. Good luck and enjoy your journey!
