Honestly the most Canadian names I can think of are names like Jean, Andrew and Matthew or Matheu
Like every other person I know has one of those names
Note that many of them are Scottish or have a Scottish vibe. Of course trends have changed many times since then. Heather, for instance, became very popular in the US in the 1970s but was not popular in the 1950s.
He also remarked that these names were LESS popular in Canada than the US:
I've met many Joannes over the years. A few other names that I don't hear as much of among people in the U.S.: Sean/Shawn, Thomas/Tom, Kevin, Alex (male or female), Megan/Meghan, Simon, Maxim, Samantha, Catherine, Elizabeth, Audrey, James/Jamie, Ryan.
I think Scottish and Irish first names are more common up here among English-speaking Canucks. There are certain first names that are extremely popular in Quebec, like Julie, Mathieu, Etienne, Gabrielle, etc., which may or may not be so popular in France. Kids' first names have gone towards being more unique and less conformist, but I don't think that there are nearly as many Canadian babies with "different" first names compared to U.S. kids... I'd be very surprised to meet babies with names like Diamond or Indigo. Most likely they'd be name Olivia or Tyler up here.
