I have had a "lump" in my left top of my breast for years (more them 3) and finally went to the Dr. last October about the lump. My general practioner seemed worried and rushed me to have mammogram and US. They lump was seen and 1.04cm/ 3.44cm. They called it a "complex cyst" and The radilogist advised me to retuen for follow up in 6 months. My paternal grandmother had breast cancer in her late 30's -early 40's and now 30+ years later has had a reoccurance, but has been diagnosed with breast cancer in her lungs (she had a double mastectomy).
This morning I went for my 6 months follow up, and the US again showed complex cyst but larger 3.02/3.44. They said it is taller!
My question is I am very worried and do not understand how this all works. Do I continue to stress and wait another 6 months for whatever this is to grow larger? My left breast is 2 cup sizes larger then the right.
Nothing has been done, my general Dr did say he thought I should see a breast surgeon but after many attempts I gave up in November/2012. I am worried as I can not understand how cysts grow, and if I should force them to do something.

BTW I am 35 years old, I had hysterectomy in 2006 due to fibroid tumors and endometriosis I only have my left ovary that is all.
Thank you in advance!

What do you mean that many attempts you gave up. Did you see a breat surgeon or not? If not why not? I think I would get a second opinion. Have they done a biopsy?

I'm sorry I gave up trying to force the breast surgeon to see me. I have not seen a surgeon. I have not had any other tests besides the Mammo and the US twice.
I just wonder if it is normal for a mass or complex cyst to grow this much in 6 months?
This thing is playing tricks on my mind!

Oh and radiologist did say the growth was taller not wider nor in diameter!

Keep pushing until you get someone to explain all of this to you. Why would the breast surgeon not see you ? I had a similar situation 25 years ago and the surgeon was an ass....they only want to see you when your breast falls off with cancer. What does your GP say ? Do you have private insurance ?

Good luck and stay strong. You can't be passive about this or "give up". I feel for you.

I actually do not have insurance I pay cash for everything as I am a full time student (Bachelor of science in Elementary Education) 3rd year. The breast surgeon's office kept saying they needed to speak with the US tech first or my GP first, I called and called.
AnnieA Thank you so much for the positive post!

mickey, years ago, I worked for a specialist and we only saw patients who were referred by their primary care doctor. Otherwise, we would have people calling who thought they needed to see someone in our specialty.
You can put the blame squarely on the shoulders of your GP. He/She should call the surgeon's office, explain why you need to be seen, forward the test results and get an appointment, pronto. This should have been done when you were in your GP's office.
Don't give up. Call your GP, explain the circumstances and get an appointment with a surgeon. ASAP.

I called and made an appointment with my GP for next Wednesday (a week go figure) I was just wondering if maybe I am over thinking or being dramatic?
Has anyone heard of a misdiagnosis with Complex Cysts?
I sometimes seem to over worry!
I was also speaking to my mom this morning and she did tell me that 20 years ago she had a lump they said was a complex cyst removed, and wanted to remove the entire breast as it showed certain cells that are more then likely to be cancer (she cannot remember what they exactly called it) But she has not been back and refuses to get a mammogram since.
Thank you everyone for your replies and patience!

KEEP PUSHING!!! If it were me, I would want a biopsy done. You are NOT being dramatic.
Sadly, I can't help but wonder if they are putting you off because you don't have insurance.

When I found my lump the screening mammo report showed a Birads number = highly suspicious. There was never any suggestiin is was a cyst. The nest step was a diagnostic mammo which confirmed the suspicious rating. Then I had an ultrasound. Then I had a biopsy.

Years prior I had cysts in the other breast. They disappeared, had new ones somewhere else, but they did not grow.

I hope your doctor can explain why he is certain you have a cyst. The fact that your breast has enlarged concerns me. In my state a diagnosis of cancer qualifies you for Medicaid, which will pay for your treatment. A friend in another state was uninsured and her diagnosis qualified her for Medicaid.

Fingers crossed for the best news!

Christina, Thank you for your reply. I think it does have a lot to do with me not having insurance. That is exactly what I want done is a biopsy not only because of the size but for my piece of mind! Thank you so much!
