Im on interferon alpha B which is an immuno stimulant. it gave me a fever yesterday but tylenol (i can take up to 3000 mg per day) helps. same today. i was able to go to work and do my job despite the 100.6 fever. i came home took tylenol and fever is down. in fact i woke up this AM with a temp of 97. they give me tylenol when they start treatment (which is 90 minutes) so i don't feel ill. headaches and flu symptoms are bad but its nice to have the tylenol for relief

this will go on for 5 days per week for about 4 weeks(induction phase) then i am going to either treat myself at home or get shorter treatments 3 times a week for 48 weeks(maintenance phase)

no treatment on weekends or on holidays so i will have some relief weekend of the 17th

at this time most likely im cancer free (had 2 surgeries) but since i have a melanoma i still need the treatment

any input on interferon pls share

thanks and happy new year everybody (yes i was able to go on vacation and enjoy)!!

i forgot to say i am on 5 meds for my blood pressure but at treatment i am getting readings like 116/78 or 119/68 and this is BEFORE taking my medications. but whenever i go to my nephrologist the BP is always somewhat hypertensive. he made a crack about the elevation is probably due to him (hes kind of a wiseguy) and hes probably right!!

He could be right, it's called "white fright", as in scared of the white coats doctors wear. LOL

Your treatment regime sounds brutal! Best of luck to you.

It's good to hear you are doing so well! Take it easy on the Tylenol if you are able because it's hard on the liver. I realize you might not have much of a choice sometimes.

Enjoy your vacation and keep fighting the good fight!!

Humans really are fine-tuned machines, aren't we?? I'm glad your Dr. is looking at the whole picture re: adjusting your meds.

The good thing is that when you get through this, life may look a lot more normal!

Our granddaughter who is a nurse Practitioner refers to it as White Coat syndrome which is about what you said. I have seen this happen with my husband more than once and he has low BP right now.

the fevers should subside after about a week. after this the main issue will be tiredness and achiness. i can do my job in that state. my quality of life will suffer somewhat for a year but hey ive developed panic disorder since last year so there wont be much difference anyway!!! although they give me an IV line to prevent nausea Im relieved to find out from the literature that nausea and vomiting are not common with interferon. this was my biggest fear

the literature also says that you will lose weight and not be very hungry for a good long while during and after treatment. this could be my free ticket to more weight loss!! (ive already slimmed down from 256 to 230). im dying to get under 200 and get my a1c under 6.0 (right now its 6.0)

i took a tylenol and im happy to say that i don't have to leave work early. im actually staying till normal leaving time. this is great!!
