I would just make sure that you took him before you left for the restaurant, and put a Depend on him.
A lot of my patients use these, just for that occasion, and if your not planning to be out that long, then the depends should do the job.
Taking your parents out don`t have to be so stressful.

I've not travelled extensively but the times I have been outside the US have left me wishing folks here weren't so hung up on gender/restroom issues. It was a major eye-opener to me 40 years ago to discover how naturally and gracefully these issues resolved themselves in other countries where the gender signs were missing from the doors.

DH sometimes takes his wheelchair-bound mom out to eat. Equipped with Depends, always. So far the situation has not come up but he and I have discussed it. We've assumed that he'd take her to the women's restroom. Prior, he'd knock on the door and request assistance from an incoming woman to run interference. We've no doubt at all this will work in our friendly corner of the nation, I'm saddened to think it might not work everywhere.

Can't resist commenting here: Cracker Barrel is a nightmare when it comes to gender issues, anyway you cut it. Why anyone would put themselves through that is beyond me.

Of course it would work, because he is doing it the right way. All some of us were saying is you need to let the women in there know you are bringing a man in with you rather than just waltzing in with him unannounced. IMO this is for the comfort not only of the ladies and girls in there, but also for Dad who may feel embarrassed walking in and hearing little girls gasp "Mommy there's a man in here!"

People have so many hangups. It isn't a big deal to see some disabled PERSON receiving help in Any room. What needs to be done needs to be done.

Take him to the ladies room - too bad if some "lady" does not like it.

I still take my 8 and 10 yr old boys to the ladies room - with all the sickos and perverts out there too bad if anyone does not like it - no one has ever said anything to me and if they did - they would sure be sorry.

That's a nice attitude, screw everyone else. If you read the thread, no one said don't take him in there, just said give them a heads up before you bring him in. A grown man is different than children, and other moms with little girls in there have a right to remove their children before a grown man comes in if they choose to.

I'm a big, scary looking guy who cared for his mom for the last 7 years of her life (she passed in May).
I took her into many bathrooms both traveling (through FL, GA, TN) and at Walmart and similar places.
I'd open the door for her, ask if anyone was in there, and if so that I wanted to bring my mom in to use the handicapped.
We never had any problems anywhere. Often, employees and strangers volunteered to take her in and help.

I can't imagine anyone with the stones to object to a little old lady having a pee.
