I'm just curious how often those who feed only wet food feed their cats. Once a day? Three times?
Our cats eat just about every 4 hours (including at night), so that's 6 or more times a day. They get about a quarter can at each meal. Both are at a perfect weight for their size.
My male cat is about 13 lbs, and we only feed him wet because he pukes up dry food nearly 100% of the time, as with wet food, its about maybe 35% of time.
He eats one can for breakfast and one for dinner, about 12 hours apart.

if their not fat than IMO they are getting the right amount of food per day...mine eat only very small amounts at one feeding...1-2oz so I feed them as many as 5-6 times per day, they too are at a perfect weight.
depends on the cat and each one requirements are different. the guide line is 30-35 calories per pound of weight. but again that differs with the cat.
All canned diets. On average they are getting 6-7 servings a day. Longest span with no food is 9 hours, overnight.
3 servings at breakfast (over a 1 1/2 hour span) then about 6 hours between breakfast and a single serving snack (I come home for lunch), then about 6 hours between snack and first supper meal. Two servings for supper spaced about an hour apart, and one final serving just before bed.
It is good for cats to go about 8-9 hours without food once a day. But no longer than that. A meal every 12 hours is much too long, in my opinion. Their stomachs begin to produce an overabundance of acid (which is not good for their kidneys either), and I'm sure their little tummies hurt when they go that long. While it's true that every cat is different, the way a cat is designed, a cat should have a meal at least every 8 or 9 hours.
My cats get sick if they have to wait longer than 10 hours to eat. It's a problem for them, when fasting for blood work.
I don't know where that 30 calories per pound figure came from. I don't know any 8 pound cat who could eat 240 calories a day and remain at 8 pounds. My cats have always averaged around 9-10 pounds (with the exception of Little Cat) and none of them has ever eaten more than 180 calories a day, and usually less than that. They are active and fit.
we have found much better results with 5-6 smaller meals thruout the day with last meal around 11p.m. and first around 5a.m. They get about 1 heaping tablespoon each time. They also want lunch. I think they have little alarm clocks hidden in their 15 lbs of fur cause they know exactly when it is time to eat.
so it goes, 5, 10, noon, 4, 6, 11...almost like a newborn baby.
this way with smaller amts they eat it all up so don't leave any dry yucky food in the bowls. also i have to make sure oscar does not get into langley's food so i have to stand there to babysit. it is a huge pain.
I was a bit OFF. according to "your cats nutritional needs" by the National research council a lean adult cat requires 280 k/cal thats 28 k/cal per pound....not the 30-35 I previously quoted. www.snipurl.comzrfgn
JJ will vomit if he goes six hours between meals. Five is stretching it, and six always does it.
It is a little exhausting though, because we can't leave the house for longer than four hours at a stretch. And there's no break time at night...if I feed him at 11pm, he's biting me by 4am. Then he's biting me again by 8.
