When Buddy and his brother or sister showed up on my back porch one day. I'd seen his momma around and I thought, stupidly, "Wow, she's so skinny for having such a big belly." Yes, she was pregnant and apparently had her kittens on my porch.
He and sibling hung around for a while but were gone one day. Apparently momma had moved them. When she and Buddy came back, the little gray kitty wasn't with them.
Here he is when I started taming him
Is he still with you? What does he look like now? What happened to the mother cat?
He's still with me. His momma disappeared a couple of months after she had the babies. I lived in an apt complex with a feral cat colony which I used to feed on my backporch. Of course the pregnant mommas and mommas with newborns would come around for food. Usually they moved on after a while, but a couple of times the kittens got very comfy and stayed - that would be Buddy and his best friend Sammy who showed up a year later and attached himself to Buddy.

Buddy's bob tail butt
They're beautiful and he looks like a small panther. I love black cats. I love the orange cats too! They're probably the most colorful.
Thank you! I realized that Buddy doesn't like to pose like he did as a kitten so I don't have too many good pics of him now. Also it's hard to photo black animals, but I have lots of he and Sammy cuddling together. Sammy loves to pose
This was taken even before I brought Amber home, by the people whose cat had the litter. I don't know how many weeks, but single digit number I would think in this shot. There were 3 kittens while I happened to be visiting there for, dunno, a couple weeks even it might have been, and how could I resist this face?

You couldn't. This is how some of us end up with more cats than we ever wanted.
Just wanted to thank all who participated in this thread. I will rep anyone I can (but I can't with some of you 'cause I've rep'd you too recently!).
I really enjoyed seeing all the photos. Gotta say, kittens are incredibly cute, but I always like it when my kitties get a little older and seem less "fragile" (and less likely to get into EVERYTHING!). Thanks again, all, and hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
