I know how attached I can get to a cat after only a few months, and how much it hurts when they pass on after only 14 or 15 years. I can't imagine losing one that had been with me for that long.

Run free at the Bridge, Scooter.

30 years...Wow!

I've had cats my entire life. The oldest one lived to be 17.

30 is amazing and not typical. I hope the cat didn't suffer through painful treatments to achieve that goal.

My childhood cat lived to 19, and that was amazing to me. I can't imagine the loss after 30 years. Wow. What a life.

I wonder if Corduroy will see 30. He will be 27 on August 1.
Corduroy was thought to be the oldest living domestic cat
until the discovery of Scooter stripped him of the title.

I doubt he did. In fact I'd bet he rarely saw a vet and he probably never even had a vaccination.

I've had enough cats to know that vaccinations and invasive medical treatment and drugs and eating commercial food -- especially eating dry food are all are direct causes of poor health and a short life.

A cat living to 30? How can it be sad news when it passes?

It is always sad whatever age your beloved pet passes. Our Rocky was 22, grew up with our children, and lived through our move from NY to Florida by car at 19 years old. They are as much a part of your family as your children are. His new Vet in Florida said he was the oldest cat she ever had in her 25 year of practice.

RIP to all our Fur Babies.

If this was directed at my comment, I'll clarify that my comment was in regard to it being considered, generally, sad news. Of course the owner is going to be sad. But, truthfully, I feel about this the same as I feel about news regarding people who die at over 100 years old. If I don't have a personal connection with the person, I can't feel sad when they die after having lived so many years.
