Try Sheba pate. Heat it a little and it becomes very mushy.

It's pretty low carb and not much added to it.

Cat food gravy gives all 4 of mine the runs.
Good to know the gravy can give runs!

I think it might be the a antibiotics Aslan is taking.
I had a cat that got diarrhea after taking them, I guess it also didn't help that I slathered the pills in hairball remedy that cat was crazy about to get her to take pills. I called vet when this happened and was told antibiotics can cause diarrhea, so can too much hairball remedy. I finally learned how to shove pill down throat.
If you have stopped giving pill it should resolve.
I would just feed her whatever she likes. I feed my cat Friskies can and supplement with a high quality grain free hard food. She is being feed better than when she was a stray so don't worry so much about it. They say cats need some greens too, but I don't know the science behind it. The only greens my cats get is purchased cat nip or fresh cat nip I allow to grow in some flower beds. I started with one tiny plant from a store a day it would cover the world if I allowed it. A very proficient "weed".

I wanted to ask if you've considered a raw diet for Asian. There are many commercially available brands now. If he's a true outdoor cat he likely has had to catch his own meals and will accept the change.

FYI, you can make your own food too, but unlike dogs, cats have more complex nutritional needs. There are recipes here: Feeding Your Cat: Know the Basics of Feline Nutrition

I can't. I have an immune compromised family member.

This made me laugh, as I have had the same thing happen to me! Unfortunately, I started with 3 plants (there are, like, 12 now!) I actually have to pull some plants up at the end of the summer, after I've harvested, so that it doesn't take over my garden because it reseeds so easily. But boy do I get A LOT of catnip from those plants!

It's been almost two years since I have purchased catnip from a store, and I still haven't gone through the nip that I made last summer!

My Josette is a picky eater. I tried just about every flavor that Fancy Feast had to offer. The only flavor that she would eat was the seafood feast in gravy. Not the Gravy Lover's-just the regular. And not the pate. The problem is the "in gravy" and the pate look similar and you have to READ the label. Hubby does the shopping and he doesn't always read the label and has picked up the pate by mistake. But, then the most amazing thing happened, she ate it anyway. So, I guess that she is learning to like it. My other two will eat anything that is put in front of them.

Maybe Aslan will learn to like the pate like Josette did.

As for Friskies, my Swatcha had issues when I fed them Friskies. He passed bloody clots. Only had them whenever he ate Friskies. I stopped feeding them Friskies and have never fed them it since that time.

I give my rescue cat the "dental" greenies treats (she likes the chicken flavor), while this is just anecdotal evidence she went from having tartar and potentially needing a cleaning (that I couldn't afford) to the next check up where they said her teeth looked good. Just wanted to suggest that as an option. I read a little about your adventures with aslan, you're doing a great job

Might try Fancy Feast "chunky" turkey or chicken if you can find it. My local Petsmart has it, but Walmart doesn't. Nimbus likes that better than the classic pate, but it is also low carb. One of the few gravy foods I've found that wasn't loaded with carbs (according to Dr. P's chart at catinfo.org) was Nutro MaxCat chunks in sauce with duck. My guy loves that stuff.

Another trick I have used, is I buy these Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Boost mixers, in rabbit. They are pellets made mostly of freeze dried rabbit. Coolest trick ever, if Nimbus decides he's gonna turn up his nose at his food, I take 1-2 pellets of that, squish 'em between my fingers and sprinkle the powder on his food. Bingo, he's sold on it and munching away. It doesn't take much.

So with the poop problems. Very likely this is a side effect of the antibiotic. You can give a cat a probiotic following a course of antibiotics and it helps. At least it helped my cat once when we had that problem. I gave him Forti-Flora, which I ordered from Amazon but I think I've seen it at Petsmart, too. Works like a charm. Also, it's a powder and Nimbus found it very tasty, and that also might encourage eating the Fancy Feast if you sprinkle it on top.

My cat who recently passed away at the age of 18 wouldn't eat anything but Friskies for most of her life (even though her indoor siblings lived on fancy feast and occasional meat treats.) So don't sweat it.

The diarrhea WAS probably caused by the antibiotics.

A little bit of pumpkin added to his food is a good idea if he'll eat it - not all cats will. I always keep canned plain pumpkin pulp on hand.

But listen to your vet who has actually seen and treated Aslan before you listen to us.

I just wanted to warn you about Kaopectate in case that was in the back of your mind. Do NOT ever give it to cats. The ingredients have changed over time. The original ingredients of kaolin and pectin WERE safe for cats, but brand name Keopectate now is mostly bismuth salicylate, and that is NOT safe for cats.

Keep up the good work, and thanks for being a caring owner!
