You guys may have remembered that the Speck the rescue kitty had a rash on his tale. The rash got worse despite the vets recommendation of the anti-fungal soap. 3-visits later, he shaves his tail and gives him an injection of antibiotics and the cone of shame (that was two big to stay on the little guy's head).

There was some concern about amputation, but I think his tail appears to be healing nicely.

Me, on the other hand, not so much. Suprisingly, kittens aren't naturally fond of baths and the first two times were learning experiences for me (experiences that really tore up my right hand).

10 days later, it appears that I have poison ivy and and I am diagnosed as such. Meds help, but fast forward another 8 days and I have a full on nasty staph infection. Based on my hand and wrist, I could be a poster boy for The Walking Dead. Loads of antibiotics and pain killers seem to have me on the right track.

The cool thing to come out of this is that my wife is a big believer in hyperbarics. I've tried it, but not longer than about 30 seconds. Way too claustrophobic. But the wife wanted one so we picked one up two weeks ago.

I was able to finally get in for 5-10 minutes if preceded and followed by several glasses of Scotch. But my wife suggested I get in with Speck since he tails was struggling to heal and maybe he would distract me from my irrational fear dying in an hyperbaric chamber.

Turns out, we both love it. We get some major fun time and naps in there.

What caused the staph infection? Was it the poison ivy? Hope that heals fast.

Not 100% sure, but we are fairly certain Speck had staph infection on his tail. It would be easy for him to pass it along to me if he his ripping holes in my skin with those Wolverine like claws.

Get the vet staff to show you how to clip those cat claws. Do it now while he's still little and you can talk him into it or you'll never manage later on. It took two of us in the beginning, one to hold the beast and the other to do the clipping. Now I can manage alone and while I get some protest, I can get them all done.

But wow, what a bandage on you. Healing must definitely go better with a buddy (scotch, too). It looks like he's enjoying it and I hope you're both back in good shape soon.

Holy cow, staph! I'm so sorry. Your attacker sure is looking at you with total adoration. He didn't want you to get sick, that is for sure!

Man, that little guy is ADORABLE. What a face!

Where does one "pick up" a hyperbaric chamber? I never heard of them being anywhere outside a medical facility.

I changed vets last week and he showed my wife how to clip them. Makes a big difference!

My wife has a 16 year old with Autism. She used to work for a fairly well-known specialist in Jax that treats kids on the spectrum. She called my wife a couple of weeks ago and told her that she knew a couple not too far from where we live that had one for sale. They bought it a few years ago and now their son was going off to college. Turns out that not only my wife known the couple for years, they are close relatives of mine. What a coincidence.
