My son accidentally stepped on his 10-12 week old kitten. She can walk on the leg and has a very slight limp and lays to the side when she stops walking. She does not cry or get angry when moving the leg or touching it. Could it be a sprain and something that will heal on its own or should I take her in and dread the cost?? Any answers are very appreciated.
I was thinking that as well although I have just become a single mother went from one income to two so funds are a little tight. If I wait a couple days to see how she is could it hurt her more?
TAKE HER TO THE VET. One of the things you have to deal with when you get a pet is that there may be expenses like VET BILLS involved!
Sorry if I sound mean, OP, but holy crap, your son (how old is he?!!) STEPPED ON "his" kitten and now it appears to be hurt. So take it to the vet and see, for peace of mind if nothing else.
My Son is 10 and yes he stepped on HIS KITTEN by accident. The kitten was laying on the floor below him and he did not know. So when he got up she got stepped on.
With pets come vet bills. Cats hide pain, so if the kitten is limping she is in extreme pain and injured.
You need to make up your mind right now if you can afford this kitten. If you cannot, take her back to where you got her.
If a 400 pound person stepped on your son would you make him wait for medical treatment?
If you keep the kitten you need to teach your son to be aware of her and her safety. But really, if "money is tight", I think your priorities are a bit skewed. Kittens need wellness visits, vaccines, spaying, proper wet food (NOT kibble).

I'd wait just a bit...see if it doesn't heal on it's own....probably will, cats are very tuff.
The fact that she still walks on it makes me think it will.
You're not alone in avoiding overpriced rip off vets.

I agree with the good food part, and the spaying.....but not the un wellness visits, or the vaccines....and no one should be made to feel guilty if they can provide a loving home for a cat....approx 1.5 million cats (brought to a shelter) are put to death every year in the US..giving a kitten the chance to live is grand, and it doesn't cost money.
See if there are any low cost services available from your local humane society. HUgs to you all. I think we all must have stepped on a a cat at sometime. Thankfully no damage was done on ours. Well they are still walking around, years later
I would go to the vet and get some x-rays done. The thing that scares me is the possibility of internal injuries in a kitten this small.
While I've learned in time that some things can wait (kitty acne, for instance), other things shouldn't wait.
ITA with the others in that kittens need a lot of vet visits--vaccines, etc. And please make sure to spay this kitten, if she's not spayed already. Because otherwise you'll have a host of other problems soon!
