Hi,
Has anybody used or is using ScoopFree Self-Cleaning Litter Box? I would like to know your opinion about it? I am in market to buy a self cleaning litter box, looked at littermaid and am kind of apprehensive looking at the review comments!
So far the reviews that i have read about ScoopFree litter box are very positive. But i definitely need to check on this forum before making a final decision

Any other self cleaning litter box that you can suggest would also be helpful.
- thanks

I've been using the Littermaid "Mega" (the somewhat-more-expensive model in their line) for about 6 years, and I've had great luck with it EXCEPT for the past 6 months or so. For whatever reason (same cat and same type of litter), it now sometimes gets "jammed up" (i.e., the "rake" doesn't cleanly lift the stool out of the box), so I now need to clean it twice per week, rather than once per week. I suspect that the cat's stools have become "looser" as he's aged, perhaps.

I've spent lots of time researching these self cleaning litter boxes... and just decided that I can scoop it myself. I've heard good and bad things in reviews (which you said you've read). I am glad you posted this though.. I want to hear from people that actually have one.

I've been using LitterMaids for almost 10 yrs. I still have my very first one and it is still going strong. I did buy an "Elite" model last yr and hated it...sold it. I replaced it with the Mega and it has been trouble free. Yes, it will clog if the rake gets caked...but that happens with all of them. The Mega is also much easier to clean than the orginal and the Elite models.

If you can afford it, try Litter Robot:

Litter-Robot, the automatic self-cleaning cat litter box that really works

LitterMaids can be a pain (e.g., rakes getting jammed, loose stool sticking to rakes, etc). Litter Robot works like a charm and you don't have to buy receptacles like LitterMaids as you can use any old plastic bags. One caveat though: It accommodates cats up to 15 lbs only. My big boy couldn't fit into the opening so I had to return it. Because of the weight, shipping costs were outrageous. I was pretty upset about the company website that didn't make it very clear. But their machine was very good.

LOL...My daughter had that one...We called "Kenny" because of it's resembalance to Kenny on South Park! She liked the way it worked, WHEN it worked. She returned 2 of them because they malfunctioned...after the 3rd she gave up...She also hated the LitterMaids...so know she just "scoops" herself.
PS...I might add, with the 3rd, one of her cats actually got stuck in it, while it was revolving!

LOL....My big boy got stuck in the opening too (but then he gets stuck in a lot of doors). He couldn't get his big butt out and panicked. I had it for a week and it worked fine with smaller ones though. I agree all machines have some issues - I don't think there's a truly scoop-free litter box out there.

LOL...No size wasn't an issue here. She has Munchkin cats. The thing just stopped it's rotation mid way...She heard the cat howling because it couldn't get out...They had dismantle it in order to get him free!

That poor cat must have been scared. Some people swear by that machine.

Depends on the individual cat. My sister has one cat who does fine with the automated litter box; the other is afraid of it. Don't own one myself--my cat would probably be obsessed with it! She just loves watching the printer and fax machine working and would probably sit next to the litter box all day waiting for it to go off....
