Want to put drapes up but concerned that our adult cat and kitten might try to climb them! Any suggestions?

None of mine have ever even attempted to climb the drapes. I do have multiple cat trees...they seem to squash their lust to climb anything else.

That's the reason why I haven't spent a fortune on new curtains - mine would climb them for sure! I'm currently having to stick with nasty plastic blinds that I hope to replace with nice wood-like ones one day.

I've never had drapes, but we do have wooden blinds here and my cat is pretty rough on them. She broke a piece off of one of them. I'm sure you can teach your kitties not to do so though, but I haven't been very strict on that part. It's so funny watching her
I can always get new ones at Ikea if she finally manages to destroy them.

Buy cheap ones. It's absolutely hilarious to watch a cat come flying into the living room and climb up the drapes. I love the "oh ****" look on it's face when it gets to the top and realizes there isn't any place left to go! LOL

The light effect streaming through the hundreds of little claw holes in the drapes is also interesting! LOL

cats you gotta love them.

I haven't had drapes for decades!

I use wood blinds, with valances across the top, like the look, kitty-proof!

I'm not so sure if it's kitty proof for everybody. My cat climbs and pulls on my wooden blinds. But thinking of it, you may have stronger wooden blinds.

Adult cats are more likely to claw the furniture, however kittens spend most of the day bouncing off that walls and like to climb. They will absolutely shred your drapes so don't bother.
I once had a kitten get into my bedroom and she decided to climb up the bed. She imbedded one of her claws in the base of my big toe. Then she started struggling to get unhooked. Yipes! That reallty hurt.

I've never had any issues with cats up the drapes, while they where kittens or adults.
My mom used to have this heavy, would give good grip for a cat, drapes which where floor length and none of the cats climbed them.

We just provided them with scratch post/kitty furniture and they'd climb that instead. (A few times they'd need some nice guidance to get their paws off the sofa and onto the kitty posts ) For the ones that where outside cats they preferred the trees to climb, guessing cause they got so much higher
