Just got back from Petco (lunch break) a little while ago. They got a HUMONGOUS long haired black boy called Hulk up for adoption. I can't believe how big he is. I really don't mean to be getting another cat right now...but he be a-tuggin' on mah heart...
Oh I always fall in love with the kitties at PetsMart when I go!

I hear what you're saying but it seems like this man looks for me to post and then just has to be a jerk. Everyone else is wonderful, this is true.

He would be perfect with Jasper .... He needs a really good home .... I did not get this huge long haired tom in the cage next to our girls because common sense said no. Two years later I am still thinking about Sultan.

This boy is bigger than this:

But not as big as this:

And he's very possibly on par with this cat:

But he is solid black with gold eyes. Gorgeous boy.

I'm out of town this weekend...but if he is still there next week I might just end up with another cat. What's interesting is that he comes from the same rescue org as my Nimbus did. So I think I'm gonna email the lady and ask her if she thinks it would be a good idea to bring him in the house with Nimbus, as far as temperament is concerned, and if there are problems could I bring him back.

(I'd hate to take a cat back. I really would. But it is Nimbus' home and that's a set-in-stone commitment. I won't have him bullied or stressed unduly in his own house, not by another cat or anybody.)

My ex had many flaws...but he is such a pushover for kids and animals, he once took our kids to Petco for some cat food or something..came home with a black cat.

His reasoning? "Well, we don't have a BLACK one!". Okay. Who can argue with that logic?

Note: I often wondered if that was a way to get out of shopping..I never sent him to get pet supplies again. Hmmm...

Those of you who read the thread about Jasper going outside, will appreciate this, I looked for it to post this, but could not find it...okay, Jasper ran outside today, I immediately picked him up, and said, "Okay Buddy, you ran outside, obviously, you MUST WANT A RIDE IN THE CAR!!!". And there we were, in the car, just like that! OH....this was NOT the plan....Jasper HATES riding in the car. So, if he runs outside, I will get him, and immediately take him for a car ride.

Another round of trapping feral cats today. I went to 2 locations in my area. One I had been to before and got 9. All 9 of those are doing well according to the folks who care take them. Today I got 2 more at that location that had not been caught on my first visit last month. I left 4 more traps and hopefully they will all have caught cats in them when I go back this afternoon.

One of the places I had to go was way back in the boonies, long dirt road, cross a tiny concrete bridge with no guard rails, continue up the dirt road and then to a long, steep, very badly rutted dirt driveway - had to put it in 4 wheel drive to get to the top. I set and left just 3 traps. The guy was nice enough to say that he would bring them to my house later today so I don't have to do that journey again.

Other members of the humane society are also out trapping today. With luck we'll have 25 to 30 cats total.

Yesterday evening, Nimbus was super frisky. I was sitting in the recliner and he was lurking behind and beside it. I heard this "Mrrr?" and peeked over the arm of the chair at him, and he did a little prance and ran off all spazzy-like.

It was so cute!

He is becoming much more vocal recently than he used to be.

Just a random kitty moment. Thought I'd share. Hope you all are having a nice day!

We have been struggling with Nimbus' cat-pits for weeks. I brush them daily, and for a little while had the matting under control, but they came back. He hates having his pits brushed, and often it's hard for me to do a good enough job before he squirms away and bolts.

So I came up with a PLAN.

I had my husband restrain him, which he did not like at all, and I used a typical plastic comb to separate the mat from the skin (worked the comb's finer bristles up under the mat) and then used a pair of clippers to carefully buzz the mat off (buzzing against the comb, not against the skin.) I'm sure this procedure was uncomfortable, and it was undoubtedly alarming, but it worked. And it kept him reasonably safe from being nicked by anything sharp, which was my worry.

Why didn't I take him to a groomer? Well all the "pro" groomers around here are dog specialists to the best of my knowledge. There were a couple gals over at Petsmart who said they could do it, but I didn't really have much faith in them, they looked so young to me...maybe they would have done fine...but I am leery of letting my boy into someone's hands if they don't inspire a lot of confidence.

I really wanted to find a way to handle it myself, and so I'm thrilled that I seem to have found a safe method, even if the cat didn't appreciate it. His little cat-pits are all clear of knots and mats now and the only injury he suffered was to his dignity.

Good morning all.I don't post on here regularly but had to tell what Boo Boo Baby did this weekend. The water heater in my town home is located under the steps. To access it you go through the bathroom closet, which has a partition hiding it in the back of the closet. There is a cut out along the top.

The closet was open as I was rearranging it and I saw just the tip of a tail go "swish"! Some Friskies Party Mix treats came to the rescue.

OK, so numerous times I hear folks talk about intelligence and I certainly do not wish to crack open a debate on this subject here (I'm on the fence, as a total cat person who nonetheless appreciates the utilitarian intelligence of most well trained dogs.)

There is one thing my cat just can't seem to figure out. If the claw is stuck, just relax and pull it back in to get un-stuck. Poor guy gets his little claws all hung up on the carpet or some other thing he's clawing at, and he just yanks and yanks! I'm scared he's gonna hurt himself. I do trim his claws, I try to do it weekly, but occasionally I forget or miss it due to some activities that eat up my weekend...

I wish there were a way I could train Nimbus not to panic and yank when his claw gets stuck in something. But he doesn't seem quite clever enough to understand how counter-productive that is...
