i deeply regret not having gotten to meet the late alan rickman in person. granted, i only got to know him more through the harry potter movies despite having watched die hard in my childhood and robin hood in my teens. i never realized it was him all along. from all the tributes i have read of him, he seemed to have been a really lovely and gentle giant (literally and otherwise). now that i have the means to have met him, i just didn't get the chance to actually find the schedule to go to where i could have met him as a fan before he died.

even though i'm now living here in the US, i yet have to meet the celebrities whom i have admired from afar in my native country.

I agree with everyone has bad days and maybe that's what happened when I saw these people. I live in Los Angeles and see and work with a lot of celebrities these are the ones that really stuck out.

The nastiest
Jennifer Lopez who refused to give my 8 year old little sister an autograph when she saw her in a restaurant and shrugged her shoulders in a so what gesture when her companion said something about it being a little girl.

Allison Janney whom I really like as an actor but not a friendly person.

John Oates from Hall and Oates
Mel Gibson
Rosie Perez

By far the nicest person I've ever met was

Monica Potter from Parenthood. and a close second is Christopher Nolan the director.

Also super nice when I saw them

Al Pacino
MArtin Sheen
Tisha Campbell from Martin
S epatha Merkeson from Law and order
Whitney Cummings the comedian

Memory, don't fail me now....

Most of these are either from my life in vegas or my psuedo-career as a baseball player.

Athletes
Nice
Orel Hershiser (former baseball) - Plays low stakes poker in vegas, carries baseballs around with him to sign for whoever asks, will sit and talk with you for as long as he's around.

JJ Hardy (baseball)- went to the zoo with a friend of mine and I because she worked there and got him a chance to pet a koala. He donates to a lot of wildlife foundations and was super giddy at the idea.

Ryan Braun (baseball)- sat around with us in the aforementioned zoo discussion, but didn't actually go.

Brendan Shanahan (hockey)- My mother rear ended him en route to a playoff game, and he still signed autographs for her.

Dan Marino (football) - On an impromptu visit to my hometown (he has a cousin or something who lives there), he was identified at a Blockbuster video and set up an impromptu autograph signing session for whoever wanted. Just sat down and started signing, in the middle of his day.

Not so nice
David Ortiz (baseball) - I played on a farm team with him. WAY too aware of his own ability, and quick to let you know it.

Kenny Lofton (baseball) - Just a dick.

Music
Nice
Downset - Not that most of you would know who these guys are, but they (the bassist in particular) were hands down, the coolest public faces I've ever met. Skipped their sound check and delayed their show because we were supposed to interview them beforehand and we got stuck in traffic. Stole beer from a then-unknown Deftones to share with us.

Deftones - Especially Chino. Was very cool about the aforementioned beer-stealing. Took as many pictures with us as we had film (yes, this was pre-digital camera)

Slipknot - The entire band. So ridiculously down to earth regular guys.

Vanilla Ice - Just hung out at Taco Bell with a bunch of fans after a show and bull**** with them about any topic they wanted to throw at him. He's one of those guys that could have succeeded in anything he wanted to do in life.

Sully Erna (Godsmack) - Not only is this guy super cool, but he's actually a legit poker player. He's cashed multiple times at the WSOP.

Not so nice
Chimaira - Especially Mark (the singer). Another band a lot of people won't know, but this guy is a total douche. Tried to gouge both myself and others on the price of his own band's shirts at a show long before they had the kind of clout/popularity that would allow them to get away with it.

Maynard James Keenan - He's the definition of pretentious, even before Tool blew up. If you've ever lived in Portland, you've met a million guys just like him.

TV/film
Nice
The entire cast of "24" - Especially Xander Berkeley. They were hanging out in a Las Vegas casino bar at some absurd hour of the morning, basically babysitting Kiefer Sutherland (who was a total mess, but still very cool).

Paris Hilton - Was an absolute sweetheart. Played poker with her at a charity event. She's not very good, but a total doll to hang out with.

Jaime Pressly - Bumped into me and spilled my drink, and was super apologetic about it...told the bartender I could put future drinks on her tab.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost, Oz) - Plays LIMIT poker at the Bellagio (almost nobody plays limit, so it was cool to see). Invited me to join him in the game. Despite playing a stereotypical "large African dude" in basically every movie, he speaks with a Cockney accent (like his GI Joe character).

I could probably list a bunch of poker players that none of you know or care about, many of whom very much polarize on the nice/not nice spectrum.

I have same experience while I still lived in Miami. I met Paris Hilton in Bal Harbor while shopping.
Despite how people like to say nasty things about her, she was nice. We actually talked for a bit and I was quite surprised how friendly she is.
Another clan that people like to demean is the Kardashians. I met Khloe and Kourtney. They were just regular gals. Maybe because there was no camera around when that happened.

You have shattered my world!!! How could Claudia Jean Cregg, err, Allison Janney, not be friendly?

I'm kidding, sort of, but it's funny how easy it is to confuse an actor/actress with the character(s) they play.

I'll amend my posting from a few months ago....

Angie Harmon, Kathy Bates and Trisha Yearwood are still the nicest celebs I've ever met, but I have a few others to mention.

Two who were very nice but obviously exhausted after a long concert under scorching stage lights-
Martina McBride
Kelly Clarkson

Actresses-
Laura Leighton (she's is tiny, maybe weighs 90lbs)
Holly Robinson Peete (who I ran into at a kids baseball game, so I tried not to make it weird)

I also ran into Alyssa Milano in the Whole Foods on Ventura in Woodland Hills several years ago. I refrained from making a big deal out of it, but just smiled as I passed and said "Hi, how are you?" (meanwhile, my inside voice is SCREECHING it's Melissa freakin' Milano!) She returned the courtesy with a knowing look that I recognized her and was a fan.

Biggest disappointment-

Reba McEntire- she wasn't rude or unkind, but her security guards were hyper-vigilant about keeping people a certain distance from her (about two feet). It was odd like you had to sort of lean forward to speak in a normal face-to-face manner. I suppose years of fans hugging her or invading her personal space had taken a toll, and I can respect that.

Oh, I forgot an IMPORTANT one:

Probably the rudest celeb I've ever met: Lindsay Hollister. She was on a cruise with her bf the same time that we were, with a permanent scowl, bossing around waiters, cruise employees, and treating her bf like a pack mule. Berating him constantly for everything (and he was like a sad little puppy, following her around, doing everything she yelled at him).

Pretty much any movie she's in where she's just a raging b****? Yeah, that's her real personality.

I'm incredibly jealous of you. Since Xander Berkeley was pre-Chloe, I'm assuming that Mary Lynn Rajskub wasn't part of that entourage?

BTW, I didn't know who Xander Berkeley was until I looked him up and saw that he was the guy who played George Mason, CTU Director in Seasons/Days 1 and 2. Did you know that he is married to Sarah Clarke, better known as sociopath Nina Myers? I just read that they met on set and married in 2002.

I have one more to add to my list and she is definitely in the top five among the nicest celebs I've met-

Amy Grant

Way back in 1994, I had a friend who worked for a concert promoter and we got to spend the afternoon with her before a concert. She was such a sweetheart.

Correct, there was no Mary Lynn Rajskub.

I did know about Xander/Sarah (Sarah was also there, super nice, and super hot).

Kiefer was very cool, but mostly incoherent
Xander was the unofficial "babysitter" for Kiefer
Sarah was there, and very nice to talk to
Carlos Bernard (Tony Almeida) was there, but I didn't get to talk to him very much
Elisha Cuthbert was NOT there (oh, I asked). She was only 20 at the time, and this was a casino bar. Apparently she was miffed about that, in Canada, the drinking/gambling age is 19.

I was introduced by my girlfriend at the time, who worked at the casino/hotel....and apparently, Kiefer and Xander knew her by name. They just called her over, like they were best friends (apparently they've been in Las Vegas more than once and they always stay at the hotel where she works.
