Normally, I don't talk (or care) about celebrities but this is really getting to be too much.
Pity poor Paulina.
She stepped out with another man very publicly while Ocasek was dying. Then she was stunned to find out she was cut out of his will.
Geez, every day it's a new claim. Paulina claims on a talk show she had to ask friends to buy groceries for her, she was that broke. Paulina says he never told her he was married and had kids when they started dating. Paulina tells the world Ric cheated on his second wife. Paulina complains they hadn't had sex in years.
Look, I get it. Pity-poor-Paulina is 57 now and aging. She's blown through the $6 million per year she made modeling for Estee Lauder. She's no Betty White. She needs all the publicity she can get.
If I'm not mistaken, they were divorced.. So, what (or who) she was doing.. Is kinda irrelevant.
it's also a bit irrelevant that she was cut out of his will if they were divorced.
I know they still had a.. 'relationship' when he died.. She was the one who found him as I recall and they didn't live together, but in the same building or something? But, I thought his death was quite sudden.. Heart attack?
Ok.. So.. I'm close, but off on some details as I read up.. They were in the process of divorcing. He had written her out of the will (along with 2 of his sons) and his death was sudden and unexpected.. He was recovering from surgery and had a history of heart problems.
I haven't seen her making the rounds, so.. Can't comment further than what you've said here.. And based on that.. Sounds like she's trying to get the last few dollars she can with the last bit of assumed relevance she has. Last quote I see is that she settled with the estate, getting what she was 'entitled to' under the law.
Not a fan of trashing the dead like that. They can't defend themselves.
Look Ocasek wanted to give her a big F.U. ...probably thought it would be years later and they would have been divorced... As it happens they weren't and under New York State law he couldn't... They had lived above their means for years and were told to cut back...aging rock star and aging model are not good financial prospects career wise! He left his second wife for Paulina who at 19 was a baby compared to the 40 yr old Ocasek . Whether she knew he was married is irrelevant clearly he knew...had he done the right thing nobody would have been none the wiser...he didn't so here is her big F.U.!

Right, a big eff you to Paulina, too bad he wouldn't be alive to see it.
I don't understand why anyone would divorce at that point with Ric being in his 70's. Paulina is the mother to his adult son's, they'd lived married for 30 years, even living in the same house still but different rooms. Legally in a divorce she would have been entitled to half of what they have in most states. I'm not sure if NY was their main home state. She would have been entitled to 35% to 50% for a 30 year marriage.
You'd think Ric would want Paulina to be entitled to his social security, if he had a pension or whatever else, obviously he was pissed about something. One article said they hadn't had sex in 5 years, sounds like they had been living in a town home worth $10 million but in different rooms.
Since they were not divorced, she was entitled to a cut of his will. According to an article I see, she gets a third, I guess splitting it with their kids and from his first marriage. Two sons did not get anything.
Hopefully she was given a fair cut which will give her enough to live on until her time comes. Who knows if she's paid into social security. This may be the only nest egg she gets unless she finds someone else since she's still fairly young. I know I wouldn't want to date at this age.
Since they were not divorced, she was entitled to a cut of his will.
If a will specifically states that a spouse is disinherited and the document is deemed valid otherwise, state succession law doesn't trump that. If it could, why would anyone prepare a will? Now, if the decedent died intestate, different story.

Legally she is entitled to half of their marital assets until they're divorced. They were still married when he died.
I'm not sure if it works like this or not but I don't see why it would not. Since they were legally married when he died, she is entitled to half, that leaves Ric's half to be added to his estate. His will could mean she does not get anything from his remaining half of their marital assets.
When he made the will, he was thinking they would be divorced, not legally married still. I wish I knew specifics on when they filed and if there was a final court date on the docket. It still should not matter since legally they were still married.

Doesn't matter if they were married or divorced. If the will states she's been disinherited, she is. If there was no will, state law would "entitle" her to half. Of course, some lawyer, goaded by an unhappy wannabe heir, can try contesting a will, but if it is determined to be a valid legal instrument, the challenger is out of luck...or more of what they think they should get will end up in the lawyer's pockets, not theirs.

She supposedly got a third of his estate, so there was some rule that got followed where Ric's will was not the final verdict.
