RIP - he was well liked and still appeared in a number of dramas and films over the decades as well as singing, and he even produced two UK number one singles, 'Silver Lady' and 'Don't Give Up On Us'.
I think he might have just wanted to escape the insanity of the US celebrity scene and Hollywood rather than the US itself.
He started as a folk singer in the US rather than an actor, however even when moving to London would take the odd acting or theatre role and might even still have been involved in music.
Maybe Soul’s popularity was greater in the UK than the USA. I don’t remember him acting after “Starsky and Hutch”. And I considered him a one-hit wonder (“Don’t Give Up On Us”).
