I agree, it seemed to happen so fast. It must be hard for her daughter to wrap her head around all this.
I had more time w/my mom...but you're left shaking your head. Just trying to absorb it all and make tough life altering decisions w/someone else's life. It's not easy. jmo

Default Joan Rivers talks about the death of Robin Williams

This was just two weeks ago:

https://celebrity.yahoo.com/news/rob...171941107.html

Quote:
On Tuesday's Access Hollywood Live , Joan Rivers called in and opened about the death of Robin.
"I couldn't believe it... You have to be in such depth, such a black moment in your life," Joan said. "And yes, comics go up and down and we're all manic depressive and he was a wild crazy genius, but my God, no one had an inkling that it was this bad."
Hard to believe we lost yet another comic legend in a matter of weeks.

Seriously... none of us know for a FACT if Joan got along with her family well, or not? I could put on a good front about my toxic mother, but behind closed doors.... well..... it was UGLY!

At this point, I do feel bad for her immediate family, but then again (what we don't know)... is that her immediate family might be relieved to not have to deal with such an ugly personality anymore.

I'm just really struggling with this one, right now.

She actually lived with her daughter, Melissa, full time, when she's in LA. I think that spoke more volume about their relationship than any perceived front.

And I had a similar situation with my elderly mother. In fact... I quit my job, moved my dementia mother in with me, and was her 24/7 Caregiver till the very end (4 YEARS!). My family room got turned into her private Hospice room.

I did not do it, out of love. I did it out of obligation and responsibility. Nothing more, nothing less.

Joan Rivers wrote an autobiography years ago, which gives good insight into her upbringing and struggle to be a comedian as a woman in the early years. She really was a carefully raised girl from a good family, and underneath the slash and burn was a quality person. I loved her bluntness.

If you watched Wife Swap when Melissa Rivers switched with Bristol Palin and her bratty kid, you could tell that Joan's grandson, Cooper, is a very well raised child, and so Melissa probably was too. I think they had a harmonious relationship.

It is hard to believe this little woman, who was still so full of life and worked harder than any 30 year old, died in such an unfair way. Joan was such a force of nature, a true original and groundbreaker. She was the last person I would expect to be felled by a minor surgery. So sad.

Well, that's the difference. You probably did it because you had no choice and your mother needed 24/7 care. Joan Rivers and Meliisa had plenty of choices. Melissa could have refused to let her mom lived with her since Joan was still healthy enough to live on her own, not to mention wealthy enough to hire a crew to take care of her 24/7 if needed. Joan didn't strike me as one who would put up with BS so she wouldn't have lived with Melissa if she was simply putting up a front. Don't let your own experience color your view of others'.
