The real meat behind Monster's Ball is the major plot twist. It emphasizes human nature very well; most people would be the same way, in the same situation. She sold that part perfectly.
For years, I didnt like Kevin Bacon but I have come to admire his work very much. I got a little put out recently when I found out that he and kyra sedgewick send one of their children to a private school at tax payer expense because he has some kind of learning disability. They could afford to send their kid to a private school. That kind of soured me on them.
I think Robin Williams is extremely talented, it just that a little of Robin goes a long way....<s> he was wonderful in Mrs. Doubtfire and I loved Good Morning VietNam.
I agree Lauren Bacall never got the recognition that she deserved.
I didnt much care for Monsters Ball.
Ed Harris is a phenominal actor and gets little recognition, I think, but he works pretty steady and I guess that counts for something. Russell Crowe seems to be going the same route and is doing well in ensemble roles.
I love those guys that show up in everything, never turn in a bad performance and they make it a good story. Ed Harris, Michael Caine, Kevin Bacon, Gene Hackman, Anthony Hopkins, even the little short guy (my mind went blank) married to the waitress from Cheers......Danny DeVito. All good, yeoman actors. Even Mel Gibson or Kevin Costner. They always turn in a professional performance even with a mild script and you dont seem them sitting around waiting for the ideal part to come along so they can be artistic......they do their job, entertain us.
(I think I may be off topic.....)
I'm back. Underrated to me....Rick Schroder. A fine actor who doesnt seem to work a lot.
Every now and then he gets recognized by the media. But there are a ton of people who think that Scarface is his only movie, when while it was a great movie, it wasn't his best by a long shot (I say Scent of a Woman deserves that honor).

I like Kevin Bacon when he's in a supporting role - haven't cared for him as the lead. I agree with Robin Williams. He was able to make me laugh without going all out stupid; i.e Jimmy Fallon, Will Ferrell, Jim Carey. I loved him in the movie where he worked in the photo department; very creepy for him.

'One Hour Photo' or something like that. My favorite film of his. Otherwise, I can only take Robin in small doses.
