I don't have to ... I have four Verizon LTE phones in my house right now, and all of them have SIMS in them.

Verizon 3g phones didn't use SIM cards, but the LTE ones do.

Ok I was wrong and you are right.
A foreign SIM won't work though as Verizon branded the phones to their SIM only.
What I need to know is if it logs into the cell phone network over there.

Actually, that is incorrect. Verizon phones can use foreign GSM SIM cards. The newest iPhones are unlocked and can be used with domestic GSM carriers.
