I have three smartphones on our 6G Verizon Plan. Eleven days into the plan, the teen ager has used 4G of the data. The other 2 phones have used .1 and .5 G. How much do you tend to use monthly? Do you always switch to WIFI when it's available?

I'm not a heavy phone user but do have a smartphone on an 'alternate' CDMA reseller. I get more text message 'alerts' than phone calls and have only 10megs data. However, I do use WiFi exclusively for data. I also have '3G WatchDog' on that smartphone to ensure it never uses - or exceeds - my data plan. And yes, I keep the 'Network Data' switched OFF.

Your teenager needs to focus on using YouTube when there is an available WiFi connection.

I'm on a Verizon 6GB shared plan (4GB + 2GB free for 2 years) and I use 2-3 GB per month. At home and wherever I can I connect to WiFi. Doesn't make sense not to when available.

2 phones.... 128 GB iPhone 6 + for me and 8 GB iPhone 5c for dad.

I was grandfathered in to the free unlimited, but any change to my plan including a new phone would lose that. I finally went for an upgrade and now my data is still free but the limit is 6GB, but I never go over 2-2.5 anyway. I can't imagine how people use 4 or more with free wifi everywhere now.

I would buy that teen a new phone, at the drugstore, one of the phones that use cards for minutes and data. Then he can just buy his own data when he uses it up tomorrow or next week.

I use about 4gb a month with Verizon. I rarely make phone calls or send texts - everything is data. There's not much wifi around here, so I'm stuck with the cell data plan for just about everything.

Probably around 3GB a month. I tend to avoid watching YouTube videos while on data, so most of that is web browsing.

It mostly boils down to pandora and youtube in the car or on the bus, or reading reddit. I also get quite a lot of emails, I have 9 accounts tethered to the phone at the moment.
